What is The Authority again and why is getting made into a movie?

Basically a group that don't care about the law and or politics / ethics. Just whatever it takes to get the job done. They are a cynical group that are bloody, curse a lot etc
There are a lot of theories that they will be the counterpart to Superman's (hopeful, proper way to be a superhero) ideology in this first chapter or so

I mean that could be cool potentially but I do fear Gunn is leaning too much on unknown characters? Im gonna let him cook but I looked at the line up and I’m not personally super familiar with any of them
Also in a sense wouldn’t they be a little similar to the Suicide Squad then tonally?
Not tryna be negative

I don't disagree with you about the leaning on unknown characters too much. I do think that he might be doing this to get the "bad taste" of the DCEU out of everyone's mouth. By starting smaller and building outwards into more prominent / famous characters. Superman hasn't had a solo movie since 2013 so I think that is a little different.
He could also be doing this to alleviate any pressure that this universe could have by starting immediately with the big three or Aquaman so soon when everyone loved Jason Momoa's version of him. Just what I think anyway. I could be completely wrong and Gunn is just choosing stories and characters he finds more interesting and niche lol.
and ya kinda. I've seen people compare them to The Boys (haven't seen the show) so one thing that concerns me is if people are gonna wanna see that tone of characters again or if they're tired of it.

I worry the consequences financially could be dire unless marketing or word of mouth is top tier for these lesser known movies
GOTG had the benefit of being a couple phases into what was for a lot of people the golden era of the MCU

Yeah that’s a really good point. Just hoping they use more practical effects than most of the MCU movies do nowadays and save money that way.
Also seems like they’re gonna be filming in places that give tax credits too. WB building a lot in London or the UK I can’t remember so I do think they know how important low costs are for the risk they’re taking. Hoping this all works out
Okay, I’m starting to understand where the gunn haters are coming from. What the f*** is he doing?

Like an edgier justice league team. Gunn is making it a movie because it’s the James Gunn to do I guess
Oh these are just jokes ok lmao

I like what he’s said so far about Superman but in regard to you saying bc “it’s just the Gunn thing to do” is something I do worry about at times
Creatures Commandos and stuff are very James Gunn. But idk like I said for now imma let him cook. Having someone who actually likes and respects the source material at the helm of the universe project is important.
Him pulling these obscure characters out is a sign of reverence I just don’t know how it will work culturally or financially
