Makes sense to me. A comedian’s “album” (to compare to musical artists) is his stand up special. If you hear all the jokes before the special no one is going to watch it. Stand Up shows is where comedians work on material and use the best jokes on in their special.

I've recorded a bunch of standup shows with my phone's voice recorder before. It's not hard if you're not trying to video it
