i dont think that was the case either. i think cudi genuinely liked their sound i remember hearing about how panini by lil nas x was originally meant for cudi but nas x somehow ended up with it.

i also dont wanna say cudi was trying to be lil nas x for the entire album. what im trying to say is that if he was trying to be anyone, he was trying to be lil nas x but the problem is that he didn't take enough risks on it so he ended up sounding like a blend of the people/genres he inspired (lil nas x, travis, billie eilish, soundcloud rappers, indie pop etc).

i generally think he made the album after all this time because he saw how much impact he left with the first motms and wanted to continue it i could easily be wrong but yea. i dont think it was about hits, it was just trying to show that he's influential even though it didn't completely work.
