That’s one thing I didn’t understand. He was laughing then got mad

At that point I think jada told him to do that

The comedian was doing his job at the end of the day, but when it comes down to it it’s a man’s job to protect his wife. That’s my point. It’s not about him overreacting it’s about him doing his job

"Protect his wife" Yea cuz Jada was in serious and imminent danger

being ginger has nothing to do with a woman losing her hair my guy

the topic of hair is completely different with women than it is with men. especially when it comes to black women who are repeatedly scrutinized in professional spaces for their hair, it’s an incredibly loaded topic. Chris Rock even made an entire documentary on it so joking on a black woman who’s been vocal about how hard her hair loss has been in a roomful of mostly white people is in bad taste

you can say Will overreacted and that’s fine. but I think everyone going against him is overreacting as well. He didn’t knock Chris out or draw any blood, just slapped him hard enough to get his point across and defend his wife’s honor. lots of men would do the same but folks are acting like this is psychopath abuser behavior or something

He wasn't making fun of her hair or her condition. He just made a simple observation that she has the same haircut as GI Jane, which she literally does.

You typed that whole paragraph for that extremely simple joke. If we apply the standard that you are using here, then every single joke is bad. That's the point of the ginger comment. Every joke can be twisted to over state harm by this metric.

He's also literally a comedian in comedic setting.

It’s not dramatic it’s just true. Will was standing up for his wife and Chris talked s*** in 2016. Well deserved slap. Will was holding that in for 6 years.

    you’re dumb af

Regina Hall literally made a joke about Lebron’s hairline before Chris’s part as well.

Like fr, neither one of the jokes are immoral or bad

  • There are people itt gauging how bad a slap is in terms of physical violence Any type of formal event will get you banned/barred from it if you do something like that. Hell even in a bar you will get thrown out for that s*** but yeah it's nothing that he did it on a stage with millions watching

If there were better hosts last night Chris Rock wouldn’t have felt the need to break out into a standup routine mid-presentation! That’s my takeaway.

If you think it’s reasonable to walk up on stage during a televised event in front of a live audience and slap someone on stage in response to a lukewarm joke, you’re nuts.

At the same time though, it’s just a bad decision in the heat of the moment. Doesn’t require a think piece on violence and abuse to explain it.

    agreed on both counts.

what chris rock said was tame af considering the s*** he could have said
