    Exactly this. Legendary artists have to evolve & adapt, every single one of them go through it

    Young Michael in Jackson 5 --> King of Pop
    2011 R&B Weeknd --> Mega Popstar
    Beyonce in Destiny's Child --> Queen B

    etc.

    You sir took the words out my mouth these thoughts were stirring in my head , Kendrick sold out for the chance to be #1 lol how pathetic getting buncha pop features to appeal to mainstream crowd

    The white guilt s*** just compound interest

  • NGNL 🐋

    This song wouldnt even be that out of place on most his albums stylistically. It only lacks the polish of modern Kendrick

    I think he would have actually been bigger if he made like GNX Type albums in the 2010's and kept the same high level of rapping and throw in a big song here and there like how Lady Gaga was supposed to be on GKMC

    He woulda been like the west coast equivalent to Cole and Ye/modernized post late 2000's Kanye equivalent to Pac

    Essentially IMO that version of him is more digestible to casual/normal rap fan as opposed to now niggas being like Kendrick don't have many "slaps" which is kinda true

    Kendrick and Cole kind of the only rappers at their level to not have a certain amount of foundational anthems/hits

    being more digestible doesn't always lead to more popularity tho
