Labels realized they could milk pure sales even more by doing variant cover arts, similar to the comic book industry.

And also, for some reason this decade cover arts started becoming more of a way to generate controversy rather than creating a captivating piece of artwork. Memes leads to virality which leads to more eyes tuned in to your album.

what would be kinda cool if streaming services allowed artists to upload alt arts and the user can pick which one out of a gallery option that show up for them individually/personally, for albums that do have alts
