I Am>Street’s Disciple
may need to give I Am another spin but this is likely lol had Streets Disciple been condensed to all the best songs on a single disc album it would have been great but unfortunately there's too much filler on there (the Sekou story tracks, the Rakim tribute, and some other weird segways)
imagine putting your soul into a diss song just to coon for the same man the rest of your life
nas been trash, Hov won
this new album only sounds good because that hammered dog s*** album Nasir came out before it
maybe i just cant get over it literally being "please notice me new generation I'm good" the album
Jay is a bigger figure for hip hop overall but musically I don't see that much difference between them. Jay has a LOT of meh/trash albums
These tend to be opinions I hear online:
Illmatic - classic
It was written - classic
I am - meh
Nastradamus - trash
Stillmatic - aged horribly
Gods son - decent
Streets diciple - meh
Hip hop is dead - meh
Untitled - decent
Life is good - great
Nasir - trash
New album - good
Most people LOVE Stillmatic and everybody likes God's Son.. and where is The Lost Tapes? That and Stillmatic are classics. Also everybody loves the new album.
2 bad albums, 2 goated albums, 8 okay (not bad but not great) albums
thats pretty much the definition of mid. mid does not mean BAD it means middle of the road.
Illmatic - classic
It Was Written - classic
I Am - meh
Nastradamus - trash
Stillmatic - classic
God's Son - decent
Streets Disciple - decent
Hip Hop Is Dead - meh
Untitled - decent
Life Is Good - classic
Nasir - underrated
King's Disease - classic
I havent even listened to kings disease but I already call it a classic just like any decent s***poster would
What if Nas only released:
illmatic
It was written
Stillmatic
Lost tapes 1
Life is good
🤔🤔
Dis but never been much a fan of stillmatic
Mix the highs of god'son and the highs of stillmatic and there is a good album tho

Did you not enjoy King's Disease very much? Rap AOTY by a long shot. I still have IWW above it but that's a top 10 album oat so.

ktt might be the only place where that's even debatable. Stillmatic is a classic. The only song that's trash was that mary j blige song with swizz and that was removed from the album shortly after its release. nobody even has the early version of the album that includes that s***

KTT is full of redditors (25% of r/hiphopheads voted that they post on KTT) so I'm not surprised they don't know about Stillmatic.
They really need to go back and delve deeper into that album tho. It's the type of album where if you don't give it your full attention it won't click. It's not meant for skimming.

So in other words nerdy white suburbanites that didn't witness any of this in real time and barely got into Hip-Hop a few years ago? That sounds about right.
I agree. I think we can say that about most of Nas' discography, tbh. I didn't even get half of the things he was saying in his music until I became an adult. These kids have a long way to go.

Yeah bro, when I got older his music really spoke to me on a higher level. The energy Nas had on that album man, his pen, the concepts he tackled successfully.. true goosebumps.
Went from being angry that ppl wanted to step on him and get him outta here, to turning the hottest rapper in the game into a punching bag and taking down his whole record label with him, to reflecting on that s*** retrospectively as if he already won (which is legit how it went down in reality), to talking about how being a rap star is poisonous and calling for world peace. In 2001 Nas was far more mature and forward thinking than Jay, people are too focused on chopped soul samples to see it.
