I said in my first post that anything can be offensive with tone. If you are subbing b**** for female than it probably has a nasty tone behind it
Oxford dictionary says it can be used as a noun, but primarily as an adjective

to follow up on the “anything can be offensive with tone” point, that’s literally how every curse word became a curse word. “ass” means donkey, “bitch” means female dog, “cock” means rooster, “pussy” means cat, etc.
at a certain point, people collectively decided that those once commonly-used words were bad & derogatory to the point where, now, nobody seriously uses those words to refer to their original meanings anymore bc they’re pretty much only known for being curse words.
so culture shapes perception of words. culturally, using “female” as a noun outside of a biological/anthropological context is considered derogatory. i’m not saying it’s gonna become a curse word, i’m saying that it’s not uncommon for words whose meanings were once innocent to become perverse from their common usage.

Yes! And before someone says “female isn’t a curse word” it’s not. It is still applicable when speaking in a scientific format. It just doesn’t have a place in everyday speech.

peep last paragraph i edited in
Nigga on here giving lectures cause some bitter twitter women convinced him female is a derogatory word
No. You don’t get it. It’s not like using the n word because that started as a derogatory term. “Negroid” is a classification that started from the study of biology when talking about genetics hailing from Africa in its origin. The N word was always an insult. It’s two different things man
same way “Paki” became derogatory in the UK or “Jap” became derogatory in the US. they were both once used commonly to describe people of certain nationalities, but their usage turned them into derogatory terms

if someone tells you that a word you use to refer to them is derogatory & offensive, how could you, as someone who isn’t referred to by that word, tell them that it isn’t? you’d have no grounds for your argument because you aren’t affected by the word. and then, after hearing them tell you it’s derogatory & offensive, if you continued using it to refer to them, that’d be a personal attack.
destroyed by facts and logic

I get where you comin from but if someone call me a negroid I’m punchin him in his s***

Don't you think the opinions of some "bitter twitter women" hold a lot more weight than yours and other posters ITT when it comes to what to refer to them as?

No cap. It’s definitely seen as an offensive term now after it was used in Eugenics for really racist purposes. If you google it, it’ll say “Offensive-Dated” so that anyone who hears it doesn’t try to use it regularly

Right, what’s so hard about letting people have what they want when it’s of no difference to you?
can't imagine how niggas in the bible casually mention them seeing angels as if the way they're described isn't terrifying

Wtf, I thought they just looked like us with wings
About to read up on this

no, not when they are just looking for something to be mad about. Literally just something to be oppressed about
I don't use the word myself but before the "niggas aint s***" trend took off they were referring to us as the "male species"... Some random twitter niggas flipped it around and called them females and now all of a sudden they are so offended
The entire thing is stupid, but today's society allows us to get blood boiling angry over stupid s*** and force everyone to change so they don't get angry anymore

Big reach but ok

I don't really think this point holds up. Every curse word you used is a name for an animal so when you call someone a b**** or a p**** you're saying they are a dog or a cat. Its dehumanizing which is why they are offensive. "Female" does not fall into that category and you can use it to describe a woman. If you go to the doctors office and fill out one of those forms it doesn't ask you if you're a man or woman, it say male or female.
And if we're talking about how these words are used culturally then "women" was literally used as a substitute for all women are crazy for a long time. A lot of early tv shows and movies would have scenes where a character would just say "women huh" and then everyone would start talking about how women are crazy. Not to mention "girl" is used to describe animals too. A lot of people will describe there pets as girl and say s*** like "good girl" to them. But using either of those terms wouldn't get you called a loser or a misogynist.

you completely missed the point. the only time “female” is used as a noun is when discussing biology in wildlife or anthropology, but as an anthropology major, i can tell you with confidence that “females” as a noun is rarely used even among anthropologists & that they typically say “women” more often. same with “male”
your point about the curse words referring to animals being dehumanizing is completely ironic bc that’s one of the biggest criticisms of using the word “female” as a noun — that its main usage as a noun is to talk about wildlife, not humans, so it’s dehumanizing
there are a ton of other point in this thread about why it’s considered dehumanizing, but i have a zoom call in 5 mins so the onus is on you to look into it

??? The whole thing with pets doesn’t work dude.
the word woman is offensive now
womb+man=woman
gender essentialist
welcome to the future i guess

Nah bruh I think you missed the point as to why those words are insulting. A human is seen as better than a dog so calling someone a b**** is saying they are inferior. A female can be a human, they aren't mutually exclusive like a dog or cat would be. By saying female is an offensive term then you are indirectly implying that females are inferior.
I do get your point tho. I don't think i've ever even used female unless its for biology purposes. I do think it is the wrong word to use and I'd rather just use woman but I don't think it should be seen as offensive. Good luck with your zoom call tho.
