I do think it’s a microcosm of politics and American society though.

No one is willing to put their livelihood on the line by themselves. There’s no collectivism or class consciousness which results in fear of speaking out

These niggas arent losing s*** by saying anything lmao

It’s like saying blm ur core fanbase agrees with the concept

If this was 2011 Lupe Fiasco would've released a song about ICE featuring Skylar Grey called "Freeze" or some s***. It would go mildly viral on Twitter and he'd perform it on Good Morning America for an audience of about 100 people.

  • Because people are getting their political discourse from other channels now. Plus, new gen listeners have labeled that kind of s*** as try hard. It's a shame in some ways.

  • They’re all spineless slaves to these labels/brands whose execs are in full alignment with those behind everything going on right now

  • Chance was very vocal during there press for his album, and also had lines directed towards 🧊, which I appreciated. Push spoke out against 🧊 to press recently as well, but overall these rappers are silent and it’s a shame

And disown it 10 years later

  • This generation has no Public Enemy or Dead Prez

    what a f***ing idiot argument

  • Majority of these rappers are compromised, meaning they’re signed to people who are the main perpetrators of what’s happening in the country atm. Hip Hop as a whole has been largely co-opted by big corporations, it hasn’t been anti-establishment for at least a decade if not more.

Definitely are exceptions like a Chance, Noname, etc but you see where they are as far as mainstream appeal goes now.

Then perhaps most importantly majority of these rappers are clueless. They just care about getting to the bag. It’s very cool to not know what’s going on. They have no political ideology whatsoever other than get to the bag.

  • A lot of these niggas got the reading level and comprehension of a 5th grader. Can’t expect s*** from them.

  • “ICE out here rippin' families apart at the border” that’s the only recent line I know
