i can’t speak to the super niche of sub genres like jerk. but generally most great rappers under 30 can rap on literally anything.

i hear guys like swavay, marco plus, kenny mason etc rap on any type of beat and still have punchlines/metaphors on it.

if a subgenre has nobody that’s lyrically gifted in it, the fans of that prolly just don’t value it enough for the lyrical guys to feel a need to focus on that sound

i also think hip-hop media, fans and industry has lowered the emphasis on talent in general.

it’s a strong amount of guys who’s raps are just 2010s throwaway lines (kick it like bruce lee type bars) and they got away with it because we didn’t have a bar for being “nice” anymore. we’ve been sold aesthetics and vibes with music as a gateway rather than the actual product. in a previous era, having bars or at least a unique perspective was the baseline that everyone had to meet.

The production isn’t distinctly regional. Lyrical rappers pair with regional production first and foremost, and won’t simply stop at production styles that aren’t made for lyrical rapping. They will however stop at a lack of distinct regionality

I can sort of dig this but what region would you attribute most of the typical blog era type production where most of this type of rap thrived? I can’t really attribute it to one region (west, east, south, etc.) and that was where this type of rap peaked

It’s no barometer after 2016 of mainstream digestible lyricism to where if you pull like DaBaby as the best example after 2016 of someone who mixed the two a lot of people would laugh at that

I feel like with the sound came artists that trained the consumers ear against lyricism and created a culture that scoffs at tradition.

I do think this type of artist is possible, but they would have to figure out how to be technical in a fresh way which is the hard part. It can't just be the expected type of technical if that makes sense.

Honestly, I think artists need to study guys like Nirvana, Alice in Chains, s*** like that. More substantive while still being a bit primitive in delivery and wording. But these new artists are too stupid and follow trends/brainwashing tactics too much to do that. They will usually just default back to Carti type s*** or whoever else is popping because they have been trained to do so. They want to be "rockstar" so bad but they only care about the image side of things, not the soul.
