all i know is this is one of the greatest songs ive ever heard lmao

Think its because people saw the tweet saying he's "breaking new ground"
Its hard to take that seriously if it's just pop edm and nothing that new or different
First I heard of him was on here mentioning Brian Eno & Burial in the title
(I know he has connections w Eno) it just invites the eye roll reaction some people have to the hype
beautiful song
kinda reminded me of bon iver tbh
I felt the 22 million vibe heavy for the whole album, even before he directly referenced it in the one song.
I’ve also only heard of him on this site. Like 8 threads all at once but I’m not gonna complain

Yeah I don't think the people who are confused and are comparing him to those artists are acting unfairly because like the people hyping him up are also doing that
You're not wrong. He's not bad, but at the same time I don't think he's like incredible. Just seems like the Flowdan x Skrillex song is what blew him up on twitter in my circles at least.
first of all fire to see this much hype on Flowdan's name, he's been an underground legend since like 2001 in the UK. I didn't even realise most people even remembered who he was lol
But I disagree that's what blew Fred up. He's been producing hits since at least Stefflon Don's 16 shots which from memory was about 5 years ago.
The thing that made me know about him as an artist was the Headie One collab EP he did, which I think is a lot stronger and more interesting than his solo music tbh.
But he's clearly insanely talented. Trained by Brian Eno, can play classsical piano, improv, write scores and produce beats in any genre he wants.
I do think some of the solo songs are following a formula he's got going but that's sadly probably what it takes to build buzz these days. doing the same thing that's worked once for an artist over and over again.
That being said some of these songs are incredible - his remix of Brittany Howard's Stay High, Billie (Loving Arms), his co-production of Jayda G's Both of Us, Stefflon Don's 16 Shots, the whole Headie One GANG EP, FKA Twigs' Don't Judge Me. Some of those are classic level music to me

I think he's been working with Brian Eno consistently since he was a teenager or something like that. at one point I think he actually worked for Eno. I can hear it within the music sometimes tbh, but I do think he's putting himself into a box a bit with how uniform all his solo releases have been round the Actual Life
also the whole Actual Life concept is so corny even if the songs are good

that’s actually such a crazy flex to have worked closely w eno wish it translated a bit more in the music or at least what I’ve heard
I just misworded that post, still early in the morning lol.
I meant that this site isn't as ahead of the curve when it comes to newer music anymore. Which is why anytime an artist starts to get buzz on here the first page is full of people insisting they're a plant.
To be fair, I don't think people would be so quick to call dude a plant if he ain't been speedrunning the industry plant checklist. It's whatever. Issa whole lotta plants in the industry. As I've gotten older I've realized it's very normal. Some thrive and actually put out quality music while some crash and burn. The point is labels are gonna put artists out and give them a ton of promo and buy em a lotta press. Basically investing in their artist(s) and themselves. Gotta spend money to make money.
Fred Again is pretty aight, but why he is getting all this praise and attention from what seems like all the major music blogs and sites like he's god's gift to modern music when it's just pop-EDM and house remixes I do not know. But I'm sure being linked up with Brian Eno has something to do with it.

from memory they're in some random amueteur acapella singing group Eno runs with his neighbours which I can totally imagine for some reason lol
Thing is though Eno does have that side to him too. Yeah he's made experimental stuff, but he's also produced Coldplay. When you look at it like that you see how you get Fred.
There are 5-10 Fred or Fred-produced songs I think are amazing, but then some of it's just cool background music to me

Is someone really a plant though if they've been producing music for other artists for years before their own thing blows up?
To me that's more an 04 Kanye or a Muni Long-type situation.
At the end of the day most artists are plants to some extent. Most artists will have a mentor or be getting investment early on from someone. Few people 100% put themselves on

What project you listening to ?
Seen most the boiler room
USB if you want more uptempo bangers
Actual Life 2 if you wanna hear his more vulnerable records
Suddenly he's a POP artist when you compare him to actual electronic musicians LMFMAOOO you niggas are so unserious on here. I couldn't even fathom this level of d***sucking being possible outside of Kanye and Drake stans
