As a Kendrick fan I think there is no excuse, it's open hypocrisy plain and simple.

He's ultimately just a nigga with a good pen and like any other nigga(me included), he has his moral blindspots and hypocritical views and his celebrity, platform, and triple entendres doesn't change that. I hate when people contort themselves to try and maintain some sanitized view of their favorite artists.

all that said though kodak does have a weird case and i think kendrick could’ve illustrated the exact same point w someone like 21 or NBA Youngboy or something. rich interlude is an amazing song but that’s as deep as it goes when it comes to kodak actually contributing to the narrative and themes of the album. the project is so openly about abuse that black people suffer at the hands of racism, misogyny and warped ideas of masculinity and to have kodak be one of the narrators for ur album and only have him as a touchpoint for the “i made it out the hood” narrative instead of those issues that he’s allegedly been a perpetrator of or party to still feels weird to me. idk

ik op said no stan wars but the fact that drake didn’t address this at all was one of the biggest fumbles in the beef

Ding ding ding, that onus should best fall on the consumer, not the platform, unless the platform is private then in that case they can do whatever they want

it’d be a good vantage point for a loser maybe but kendrick has always said what he thinks, never felt the need to hide behind a character or a narrative. bro opens the song talking about how he’s sick of b****es i really doubt any of that track is how he’s really feeling

i do. you can write a horrible character as long your narrative doesn't advocate them. when your messaging as an individual is muddled by your own (in)actions and the character you're playing in your art then people have a right to critique that.

yea let’s agree to disagree when he makes it almost explicitly clear by going to the lengths of crafting a whole narrative for one song on the album only and playing a toxic pos nigga on purpose and having that guy spout stupid s*** and all signs of Kendrick’s morals and character irl point toward that not being the case 🫱🏾‍🫲🏻
