You can get addicted to anything. When people say it's not addictive they mean it doesn't contain anything that chemically makes your brain addicted to it like nicotine. But that doesn't really matter, when you really like something it's hard to quit

People get defensive because they’ve usually dedicated so much of their life to smoking that it would affect their world view to see it as addictive even if they’re fully addicted. Took me about 5 years of smoking everyday to start questioning things
