We been had that and if we emphasizing “personality” that is all based on perception lol.

Cause some of these street niggas that are popping do NOT have any semblance of a personality watch any of these ny young drill niggas in an interview they are the most boring people EVER.

I’m already knowing these new street rappers have no actual personality, I’m talking about an actual mouthpiece with real charm

And though we’ve had it in the past, there’s no Gen Z born prospects who fill this that we know of tbh

IMO for most people, there's just little use for conscious rap in 2023 when their are more enjoyable forms of rap music to listen to.

The goal at the end of the day, no matter what kind of rap it is, is to be able to listen to it and for it to sound like a pleasing audio experience

    It's all relative

The people are telling you that 'opp' music is more enjoyable than conscious music. If that weren't the case, conscious rap would be more prominent. And while there hasn't been a "#1" this year, rap still has been successful on billboard. Durk had a major hit this year.

To me, it's not about what you or I think is enjoyable, the consumer is telling you that conscious rap isn't enjoyable.

And the selling out of shows is overstated. Lil Baby just had a successful arena run, Drake is on an arena run, Future just had a successful arena run, just because a few shows were cancelled doesn't mean a tour isn't successful. Kendrick, Cole, successful tours.

Ehh not really, it has a lot to do w trends and what is being pushed and marketed towards consumers. Like u said kendrick and cole are hugely successful and they would be deem as conscious, there's definitely a market for it mainstream wise. I mean the durk song that is a hit has "conscious" themes in it

They aren't conscious rappers though. To proclaim them as such is disingenuous. While they may have the label now, these are the guys who came of age by making work out, power trip, swimming pools, p**** and patron, etc.

    Hardly conscious rap records

And It's my belief that it's not marketed towards the consumer because it's not desired. Conscious rappers are readily available and out there today. It's not an obscure thing. What's pushed is what desired.

How are kendrick and cole not considered "conscious" lol ?

Being conscious doesn't mean everything song u drop is going to be a political, social commentary, and even with that swimming pools is still that.

Its not as simple as saying what's pushed is what desired. When loads of people are complaining all over the place that rap is in the gutter

I seriously can’t imagine just listening to music as entertainment

Music with soul and meaning is great for you. People love to say “if I want to learn I’ll read, I don’t need it in music” but those people ain’t reading either. Im not saying rappers should give you all your world info but hearing people express their thoughts and feelings can be a deep and enlightening experience

Y’all just like bouncing your arms to trap beats or something have fun with all that

it’s a pretty limited viewpoint to have and I think it’s encouraged as part of dumbing people down. Nobody reads any more and they don’t even want us spreading cultural awareness through music either so there’s a campaign to say “music should just be mindless fun “. Rap music can be so much more than that but it seems like they pretty much succeeded in stripping it of it’s original significance
