First maybe this is just me but there are very few artists/genres where I know I'm gonna dislike it 100% of the time. For the vast majority of cases I'm with you though I tend to ignore s*** I don't like which is why for example I don't have a single post in a Gunna thread on this site

For your last point personally I think its gotta be a balance, hate for hate sake is fun sometimes and is pretty integral to any site's s***posting culture (though I will admit the balance is out of whack rn and there are just too many ppl playing personas) and treating online discussion like this thing that must be engaged with in a specific way robs it of some of its magic

Many on here hate solely to engage in forum beefs . Don’t actually care about the art , lyrics or artist . They do it to feel involved and cool. I am saying if an artist just isn’t for me , I don’t care about their lyrics or I hate them I don’t listen .

OP sounds like they’re suffering from a symptom of the beef “pick a side and stay there” mentality.

But can you speak on something you know you won’t enjoy and will just be negative?

If you don’t like the artist why would that change?

But why comment on anything if you haven’t listened to it?

Sometimes what you like changes.

Maybe you haven’t lived the experiences that let you connect to an artist. Maybe you had a new experience that negatively changes the perception of an artist you used to enjoy.

Nothing wrong at all but I’m talking about artists who have released multiple albums and you know what you’re getting from them.

Like my OP about Eminem. He’s released a lot of music and a lot of albums. There are songs I actually like with him but overall I don’t enjoy his output and don’t enjoy his albums.

If his most recent album was getting high praise and contented for AOTY I would see no point in listening to it because I’ve heard enough from him where I still wouldn’t enjoy it as there is enough evidence in the past.

If there’s a new artist I don’t like releases something I would give them probably a 3 album max chance to see if this is for me. If not then I’m not returning to any of there work.

could also be to give it a chance and be able to hate precisely. last one is why i listened to the eminem and jpegmafia album. sometimes i hate an artist but they got good songs here adn there also

Yeah you are right but I actually think albums I liked when I was younger I can look back on them and say in that moment it was great but now not so much. Normally when the artist gets older I listen to there recent stuff I realise I’m not a huge fan.

yeah and thats normal. Im the same way. Also sometimes i relisten or re-experience art i loved when i was younger and realize so much was over my head and I get to fall in love with it again.

then it has 2 places in my heart.

The best thing to take away from people who like or dislike something, as long as they’re being authentic about it, is just talking to them about their life and trying to compare experiences.

Because I am a fan of entire genres, not individuals, if you make music in a genre I enjoy, I will give it a listen

Then if I think it’s trash, I’ll make fun of it, if I think it’s dope I’ll praise it

It's actually insane to me how often I have read "I heard.." about the latest drake albums. People feel comfortable to openly say they are talking about music they haven't even listened to.
