He was a breath of fresh air for awhile, didn’t try to be anything he wasn’t, was really good at giving you a nice body of work.
Then he wasn’t any of those things.
Thread feels like everyone’s giving a eulogy at his funeral.
Tbh because I feel like he filled a void for me for my favorite rappers of the previous generation (Jay, Ye, Wayne) and in the beginning it seemed like he had so much potential to match their greatest or even surpass it creatively but now 15 years later at age 38 he’s only seemed to do it commercially
Fell way short on delivering that level of quality. At least where Jay and Ye are concerned, album quality wise I feel like he’s comparable to Wayne both have classics from their respective peak white hot eras (2004-2009 for Wayne, 2009-2015 for Drake) but what puts Wayne in a different weight class is he’s so much better as a rapper when he’s locked in, in terms of bars flows and schemes and such. Wayne is really like Notorious BIG level nice imo

Wayne is not BIG nice lol
we in therapy mode rn
Wayne is not BIG nice lol
Big arguably had the best combination of flow delivery schemes and timing all time and was a phenomenal storyteller so I would never say definitively say Wayne over big but Wayne is probably the most charismatic rapper oat and has flows and schemes up there with the best (big em Jay etc) and prime Wayne’s bars and wordplay is probably best of all time as well, far exceeding what big was capable of so it’s closer than you think champ

Thank you for saying what the rest of us fans didn’t want to admit.

Undermining Wayne is so ridiculous
Not only is Wayne on BIGs level, at Wayne’s height he even surpassed BIG rapping wise, RIP tho we didn’t get a chance to see BIG evolve like he would’ve

Lmao word, I hate to say it but yall know im always gonna call a spade a spade
Nigga dead nice though and the s*** he’s good at he’s PHENOMENAL at so ima always want to see him win. I really hope he wakes up and realizes he can have a whole fresh new career arc if he simply lets go of this need to be the biggest commercial artist. When Drake is truly ready to not give a f*** if he flops and is purely motivated by creativity I think his music has a chance to get interesting again. Or he could just be like future and make Unc trap until he’s 50. Time will tell
Bro was witty and real transparent with his thought process.
Having songs like Fear and Best I Ever Had out at the same time is still wild to me.
Heard him right around the time when he dropped So far gone and I was a huge Weezy fan so it was easy to get into. Over time, our lives have shaped and evolved and guess who delivered every f***ing summer hit after hit for all modes and emotions.
Drake was extremely relatable and excellent writer who can tap into you with minimum effort. His producers, 40 and Boi 1da were a crazy combo at the beginning setting the whole thing up. Then the whole OVO brand and late night drops, SoundCloud, OVO sound radio and all that. It wa a fun time and this is why most of us are fans of this incredible artist.

This dude said Eminem lol man
People love music dont listen to Eminem most of that mans music is meant for mtv warped tour crowds from the 2000s
Beats arent really hip hop often
Music aging like milk.
Only rappers biggie can be compared with is nas and jay. He’s legitimately a phenom.
Wayne is ok and I understand people considering him a goat but his catalog aint aging all that well either
His voice, beats, songs etc
Arent comparable to biggie
Even Drake makes better music than Wayne and I’d much rather listen to Drake bar out on a song like 0-100 than Wayne cuz once Drake found his voice is 2013 and stopped sounding like Wayne is when he really became a cold hip hop artist
For me, Drake is a catch all that fills a lot of sounds that I like. He also helped me discover a lot of the music I have grown to like outside of his because of the sounds he's used himself, the features he's done and OVO Sound Radio.
With his music itself, it's mostly a sound that I can easily get into. It's music that also for the most part has aged very well. Even songs on Thank Me Later and So Far Gone have aged amazingly. It's also that he knows what tone to set to which songs. When he's spitting bars he can do something like a timestamp record, he can do a yearning R&B record, a fun party song, dancehall, a pop song. It's kind of why even though his content hasn't evolved much over the years I can still enjoy it because he doesn't do the same single type of song.
Granted, I do believe he is past his creative peak and I would like him to get there again. But even then, his downturn is not as bad as a lot of other artists downturns over their career. It's not as bad as Wayne's worst or something like that even almost 20 years in. He can still make great music.

I'll be the first to say Em overrated especially by those who think he's the literal goat (mostly whites) and his output post Relapse has been trash but if you can't respect prime Eminem's mastery of complex rhyme schemes you don't have no business talking about rap from a skill based perspective tbh
The "lives vicariously through him" theory is looking a bit too strong itt
Goddamn
