I don't know if I have a real answer to this, i'll have to think about it.

I will say that Freddie Gibbs had some great beat selection when it came to collaborating with Madlib. From my understanding, for Pinata, Madlib just sent Gibbs hella beat tapes and Freddie just went through them and picked his favorites. A rapper with a lesser ear, might've picked all the wrong beats.
