If you’re curious, peep the compatibilism article on Wikipedia that I linked last page. It can be some dense s*** sometimes, but the thought experiments are so fun to think through and it’s well worth a shot!

Vast majority of politics and philosophy both boil down to people putting forth theories about the things we can never truly figure out - why we’re conscious, our relationship to “God”, what happens after death - and what our nature as a species looks like in the absence of government to inform how we develop our civilization. A lot is the sort of thing you’ve probably bounced around in your head but just never had the words for, if you’re like me lol

Ah so it’s basically like sophisticated theories on how to make sense of the world around us or challenging our conventional way of thinking not necessarily answers but a path into leading towards something close. I have these questions in my head but I never knew how to communicate them well and as for politics I don’t know where my ideologies fall so I kinda removed myself hopefully this page can be like a jumpstart for me

What do you mean mean by deconstructing arguments? Is that like challenging view points on life?

im pretty high rn so this may not be the best explanation but it's basically being able to determine if an argument is valid by distinguishing the reasons and evidence (premises and conclusions) within an argument.

One last thing I’ll say and I’ll stop detailing the thread:

You might be thinking that philosophy is reserved for some class of old rich white men who have the time to focus on that s***. That’s an arbitrary act of gatekeeping and entirely intentional: the idea of exploring the big questions and finding comfort in self as a result runs completely contrary to capitalist society where the working class is a public of interchangeable drones.

It’s always worth arming yourself with the ability to feel comfortable in your own perspective. Education is more accessible than ever. You’re always worth giving something a shot

I wholeheartedly agree with this the reason why I never educated myself on politics or even philosophy if they aren’t one in the same is because 1 the public school system I was I was in never really taught me the things that I obviously needed to be aware of in this country in order to have free thought and I’m just easily intimidated with all this new information because I never really had a gateway into it and nobody ever told me that I have the right to explore it at any time

I hate politics but the second the flaws of capitalism are pointed out to me I just get consumed in how much injustice happens in front of our eyes every day and it’s maddening
