PERRY: So I talked to a researcher from University of Michigan. "Her and her team have been tracking all incidents of anti-Asian racism and violence that were reported in the news during all of 2020. I just want to back up and say that these numbers are spotty because a lot of these incidents don't get reported. So what the team did find out is that white people accounted for 90% of anti-Asian incidents in 2020, but only 5% of perpetrators were Black."
the source is right in the f***in link dumbass
I'm not sure if you're trolling or what but saying "I spoke to a person and they did some research and it turns out" is not an actual source
There's no way to confirm or deny what he's saying. There's no link to the University of Michigan research
This thread already turned into every thread about anti-asian racism in the past month
yea i mean a lot of posters are black and they're used to being demonized and villainized so it strikes a nerve when from the beginning you could tell the whole concept was being coopted by reactionaries and white supremacists to put black people down.
the actual tension between black and asian people in these threads and irl is more symptomatic of the greater internalized racism of both groups that continue to get exploited by white america
everybody needs work but i don't condemn nobody for being mad about being attacked for their race

Is there a link to the actual study itself? I'd like to see the data and sources. 90% white and 5% black seems highly unlikely based on past data
2018 for example

The key here is understanding that Asians are the only race victimized more by other races than their own race.
You never disappoint nice like Christ

That's not what I was talking about at all lmao
It already turned into some nerd on here denying this and still trying to push this black vs asian narrative
hopefully @Synopsis can stop trolling now

this forum really weird bro. you come in asking to see a source and showing some actual past data and they attack you
didn't even say anything remotely wrong or offensive

68 Ways to donate to and help be an ally to the asian community
“Democratic lawmakers said they would introduce a new bill addressing a rise in hate incidents directed at Asian Americans amid the coronavirus pandemic. The bill, a revised version of legislation introduced but not passed in the last Congress, would create a new position at the Department of Justice to facilitate the review of hate crimes and provide oversight of hate crimes related to COVID-19.”
And the Asian folk who own the beauty and hair supply shop and corner stores in NYC still gonna be following me around their stores regardless of this information

Numbers from 2018, if you look at the numbers from 2017 and the numbers from 2019 the rate of victimization of asian is significantly lower. So 2018 isn't the standard
The numbers were so low that they omitted asians out of the interacial victim offender chart and put them with others in the 2019 version. And I can guarantee the numbers in 2020 when they're released is mostly gonna be skewed towards more whites on asians, which is where I'm assuming the researcher from Michigan got her numbers from.
How is this bait
Who cares what race they are?
When you already have multiple people saying the thread gonna be a cesspool right off the bat you already know it’s bait

Because there’s been a few users on here try to frame it like black people hate Asians
Controversial topic != bait

this is the source as of now
npr is a fairly reputable news source they wouldn't go around spreading lies and University of Michigan has a fairly dedicated wing of the Asian Pacific Islander American Studies Program in its Department of American Culture.
the study isn't published as of now and even in the news source she admits the numbers are spotty but the sheer 19:1 ratio as it stands is symptomatic of a larger issue that the thread is about
the question is what do you stand to gain by throwing skepticism at their numbers unprovoked like statistics mean anything to you when you've got such reactionary politics

Could be the case but I'd truly be surprised if it was 90% white. Maybe they're lumping hispanics and caucasians together? 90% of hate crimes committed by one race is unprecedented and remarkable. I'll wait and see.
The disparity in violence crimes is also a big issue tho. Asians very rarely commit violent crimes against anyone so it's even more alarming to see them constantly targeted by other races.

I just think that 90% is unprecedented in statistics. Even if this study said 90% of anti asian incidents were by Black people I would question it too
It just doesn't seem like a number grounded in reality for any one race to be the cause of 90% of incidents.
Who knows tho because they were talking about stuff like name calling and racial slurs when the biggest focus rn should be violent hate crimes
