Departed is closest . Undeniably more fun and Jack kills it but it doesn't move me like Irishman.

Infernal Affairs though :jordanlaff3:
Johnnie To’s Election and Election 2
Johnnie To’s Election and Election 2
I mean yeah but them joints are like 20 years old atp
The Alto Knights duh
Irishman is f***ing exquisite on rewatch. Might be top 5 Marty.
The highs are peak but I always feel like the middle part really drags for me. Too much emphasis on the political side of things and it takes away from the protags personal journey for me.
Still an amazing and fitting film this deep into Marty's career and I will never complain about how he got De Niro x Pesci back together in a mob flick, but it doesn't touch Goodfellas nor Casino for me
Casino remains his most underrated in terms of his more popular films
if we're talking underrated Scorsese we gotta mention Silence...

"the political side of things" is what is theoretically interesting about the entire story -- how martin scorsese took the line struggle in the Teamsters vis-a-vis the CIA, the mob, and the Cuban Revolution and made that all about the 3 most boring white dudes to ever exist on Earth is wild to me.
and this is really the problem with doing these kinds of historical epics if you're not good at them. the events depicted can overshadow the characters themselves and render them uninteresting.
also American Hustle is garbage

For me the most interesting aspect was the journey of De Niro’s character, especially in the context of how it mirros Marty getting there in age as well. The ending still hits but if they cut out some of the middle part it would hit even harder. It just feels a bit jarring to me

Didn't like that near as much. You know I'm not that big on HK cinema.

Goodfellas always felt overrated
Rated Casino higher on last revisit.
