im sorry but if the commies "actually understood the nature of capitalism" they wouldn't be commies

Users in here have already said they’re in it for the money, now think how people 100x richer than you using this system think the exact same way

But sure it’s has no government backing

…. Because the average person has the revenue to get into the market and invest enough to actually profit from it

Again this is just a scheme headed by the rich elites where they fool slightly less rich people into buying into it

I’m sorry this sounds harsh but it really is the truth. Literally just a giant privileged circlejerk

I have to disagree w you there bruh. Right before the pandemic really hit I put my boy on to chainlink. Fast forward not even a whole year later and he ended up being able to pay most of his tuition off. And me and him are just regular niggas who’ve dabbled in crypto here and there

So the average Joe can for sure benefit from crypto. I’ve seen it with my own eyes

    “Store of value”

    Just use a conventional currency

Yeah, that losses it's value year after year, no thanks!
Coupled with soaring inflation, putting all of your money in crypto or even stocks is a good idea.

My entire savings is crypto no fiat.

  • Nov 3, 2021

A currency not backed by any central bank but exorbitant energy demands in the midst of climate change is not gonna work. Financial firms bought in only because the average investor did but once they lose faith in it as a currency it’s price is gonna plummet.

Now you realistically think the average person, possibly with a family or multiple responsibilities can see that same outcome? Outside of just one or two instances

On the other hand I am glad morons exist because I made a quick buck off crypto a while back. It's the delusional libertarian types that allow this scam to go on as long as it did and help the price rise. That and normies trying to get in. But to put your entire retirement savings into crypto or make it your political world-view should earn you a trip to the psychiatrist

This isn’t even helping artists. There’s literally no proof you own it besides a digital receipt…..

    Literally nothing.

Of all the critiques someone could have of crypto, the idea that it doesn't help artists isn't one of them. I worked at a studio where illustrators and animators make significant income off NFTs they created on the side. They don't have a big name for themselves or a ton of followers, just fire artwork. Anyone can do it, but it does require investing time and effort into a skill which is a lot to ask for some people

The market still hasn’t stabilized and it still serves the exact same purpose as it did in 2017, being a fringe currency

We are still very much in the discovery/experimenting phase here, hence all the pump and dump dog tokens

But just like with the dot com bubble it will be adopted eventually maybe not a replacement to fiat but an accessible way the public can hedge to inflation

The issue with bitcoin energy use like you are concerned about is one many in people in the space are fighting against right now, they are veering away from PoW mechanisms which is what is used in bitcoin, as smarter people have already developed less energy consuming ways to cryptographically validate something

OP of this thread doesn’t even own bitcoin, I do but I’m looking to get rid of it for something else when its advantageous to me

There is very much a battle going on in the space to reduce energy use and it is evident if you look at the top projects blowing up right now such as solana, and avalanche,

This chart below reflects how the dominance of bitcoin will and has been decreasing year after year as better more efficient/cleaner was of achieving decentralisation is being developed

Yeah I do with the right timing and research I believe people who aren’t already wealthy/well off can benefit.

Like I said I’ve dabbled in the space here and there over the last 4ish years and everytime I’ve done my research and been patient. I’ve made some good money and most times would’ve made even more if I’d been patient

Thats no different than trading stocks, not bad per se (although the electricity s*** is troubling)

There is a difference between what you do and making it your political goal to make that the world currency
