the reason jewish people own so much of the media and financial industry is because jewish people were historically outcasted from typical working sectors because of social discrimination. working in finance and working in entertainment were seen as sleazy jobs and jews were inadvertently pushed into these industries because they faced prejudice elsewhere. as these industries became more profitable and less alienated (and more idealized), because of the lack of mobility and lack of monetary circulation under american capitalism the people who worked in these industries and made massive amounts of money never left or had a reason to leave.

i wouldn't say it was coordinated, it's not like they were "forced" to work in these jobs (passively or otherwise), but jews faced a lot of discrimination - much like the Irish & Italians did in the US - the difference is that Jewish work in finance stems all the way back to the feudal ages. Many jewish people come from trade families; families that were historically tradesmen or vocational. Thus, it was very easy for jewish people to simply start businesses as opposed to deal with discrimination in work-forces. Because of the insular pockets of other jewish people in neighborhoods (because of jewish ghettos as well as because of insular living), it was very easy for jewish people to become self-sufficient in their business and trade. This was also the case for italians and irish. However, unlike them, jewish people never got involved in local politics - i.e. the irish and tamany hall in NYC. This resulted in jewish people never being absorbed in the cultural-political "white" social class; thus, as irish became political pawns to simply be abused as factory workers and such (in exchange for 'political privilege'), jews never really did this, and they largely thrived on their own, and by complete coincidence most of the trades they participated in were highly profitable even during times of depression - i.e. tailoring. The entertainment/media industry (and similar) were largely populated for a similar reason; jewish people ended up in the industry because there was a simply an opening to do so and no one else was filling it as it was looked down upon. Contrary to popular belief, the people who participated in these were initially not rich - they were run by the equivalent of the lower-middle and middle class at the time. However, as these industries ended up being insanely profitable because of post-industrial (and later post-war) class and culture changes, the people who were there prior were still there, and became profitable at such a quick extent that the people who were there prior became the old guard monetarily even when non-jews started flooding the industry.

There's also the elephant in the room. Ashkenazi Jews have the highest average IQ of any ethnic group, which is 112-115. This has significance because IQ is a good predictor of success in most jobs. It's also a good explanation for why they won 27% of the US Nobel science prizes and 25% of the ACM Turing awards even though they make up about 3% of the US population.

yes you are correct and i would not deny that. however i think the discussions about IQ to be honest can go south quickly. IQ discussions are hard to have since they are multifaceted.
part of what breeds success is insular stability. jewish people have been lucky enough to largely maintain strong facets of their culture in light of diasporas, oppression, and more. he Han Chinese ethnicity actually have similar background to this; the difference is jewish people were diasporic and have never been localized and thus have such compounded by centuries of historical nuance while the former is mainly heavily localized and has not really had that happen. There are not a lot of "poor" ashkenazis; the average income of ashkenazis jews has - in the post-war modern era - been higher than that of the average person; even higher than that averaged of other types of jewish people! It's not surprising thus that they breed more success statistically; you're going to get a higher rate of outlier successes from ethnicities which align with socioeconomic classes more than you are from ethnicities which do not. As I said in another post, a lot of the success has to do with how old guards are formed because of immobility under capitalism. Those who reach the upper class basically stay in the upper class, even if they got there by accident.

Intelligence, as measured by IQ tests, is a heritable genetic trait, my man. We don't know what lead to jews having a higher average. Inbreeding and famine among a population can contribute to a decline in IQ tho, but I don't think this applies to a lot of people today.

But I agree with what @krishna_bound said that discussions about IQ tend to go south pretty quick. Let me be clear that I don't think people should be discriminated based on immutable traits of any kind, but based on merit. Jews having a higher IQ is just an observation, and IQ alone is not the be-all and end-all.

It’s clear that the main reason so many of these guys are Jewish is because they’re deliberately hiring other Jewish people to fill in their roles. But at the same time, this overrepresentation hasn’t lead to any disastrous consequences for the well being of society, so I don’t really care.

In another example, think of how many rappers are from Compton. The city is some mid-sized suburb of LA, yet it seems like every 4th rapper comes from there or has ties, and it’s mot like Compton rappers are specifically better than any other city. It’s cause they got in big earlier and have used their power to bring fame to people from their city, just like jews got in the media and entertainment businesses a long time ago and have used their status to put other Jews in the same positions
