Just thinking about how music has been evolving this past decade and how usually new things and genres and trends usually start as a rebellion to the norm
2 big ones that come to mind are hyperpop and rage. Both responses and evolution of the trends that preceded them. But what can logically come after that? Since hyperpop started as an over exaggeration of y2k pop, would the next step in that be a the same for 2010s pop and if so what would that look like? EDM influences are already prevalent. Rage already rebels on possible level, so what could come after rage that kids would latch onto?
Maybe it’ll be an evolved version of a small trend from the late 00s and 2010s? Like how Jerk evolved from the og jerk movement or lex Luger and futuristic atl sounds have been incorporated again. What else is there to be inspired from? Only thing I can think of is maybe an updated version of old OF sounds but that’s far fetched imo. So what is it gonna look like when someone rebels from the norms of now?
Not rebelling for the sake of rebelling which has led music to now lol
Effort, Originality and Studying the trajectory of the game
perhaps a***ogous to post-punk and freestyle music
rage splinters into more downtempo, laidback subgenres (a la new wave . shoegaze . ) or gets even more radio friendly / extreme (synthpop. experimental~industrial. )
hyperpop maybe yields in lieu of something more danceable (possible eurotrance/afropop/house influences) or gets overtaken by a new divergent sound altogether (akin to alt rock / r&b / hip hop taking over). id like to see footwork~grime~go go~new orleans bounce~detroit house music gain more influence
other rappers might return to the basics (emphasis on lyrics, pillars of hip hop, etc) for reinvention
maybe even release models change (reoriented focus toward intentional sequencing, ep's/mixtapes/non-streaming exclusive full lengths, etc)
