My son uses the platform scratch, he’s been teaching himself how to use it for a couple years now

Apparently he’s been talking to his mom about asking me to allow him to leave comments, because that helps him reach “Scratcher” status which is important to him and lets him unlock some features that could improve his games. I obviously don’t let him chat or interact with anyone on the internet at his age unless we personally know them

But right before he was about to ask me, I noticed he had a new message on his profile. He checked it, and it was an invite to become a scratcher

Super proud of him, especially because while all his friends used AI to learn and make their projects, he did that s*** from scratch (lololol)

At first he didn’t understand why I wanted him to actually learn it without AI, but he recently realized how much better he is than all his peers because he can genuinely make cool s*** without needing a LLM to generate code for him

How in depth do these games get?

They get incredibly in depth, my son is making his own version of Minecraft called “ScratchCraft” currently lol

But yeah it’s a sandbox game so it goes as far as your imagination and skill level

It also has a cool “remix” feature so you can see inside other games and kind’ve remix their idea into your own

I’ve spent like 6 hours hunting and downloading samples still got like 50 more tabs open and a few more playlists to go through smh
