So theres different types of melodies obv, one thing u wanna do figure out like different patterns that work well together. In essence most melodies are chacterized by the angle between adjacent notes and duration of the notes

I call certain melodies "oblique" when theres a large difference in the pitch of adjacent notes. You want some melodies to be oblique and some to be closer to each other like if you do an arpeggio you might not use oblique melodies. if you combine what in describing now with knowledge of music theory i.e. which notes comprise a scale and having an intuiton for the proper intervals to play then you can make really evocative melodies.

You also want to think about the duration or length of notes, like with the angle between notes stuff you wanna mix it up and layer melodies with different note lengths. So you might combine this idea with the oblique vs non oblique melodies your basically hacking and making patterns that are very melodic without even really thinking about it that hard

Sound selection is most important tho, i use a lot of everything and knowing which patterns to use for which sound is crucial. I might use arpeggios or top line melodies with leads, or like chords with pads etc. Its simple but that s*** will take u far. U also wanna use a lot of keys/polysynth swith arpeggios or oblique melodies which i do in almost every beat because it sort of leads the rest of the melodies. I usually prefer sounds with long release that are softer and have roch timbre, like keys and polysynths as i said before. Imagine youre making art wit the melodies it should have like a natural symmetry to the eye

Oh yea forgot to mention personally i dont rly use a lot of chords. Arps are goated i love using crazy melodoes with arp sounds
