I was thinking about how communism says they will sort of regulate what jobs people get

While in general I think communism is dumb af. I do wonder if it would make sense to do kinda what medical schools do, where there are quotas on degrees. The reason why I think this could be smart is a lot of people go into college without really knowing what degree is both good for their skillset and employable. Maybe we should have a system where we first assess aptitude then combine this with an evaluation of the job market to steer students into positive directions.

Ofc this idea has many flaws the main one being in theory it would make it a lot harder to get a degree, but it could also be the inverse, if a field is in great need for more workers, the system will filter people into that field.
