He can shut the f*** up. His whole woke music thing doesn't work if he's scared to actually speak up about things that matter.

If you're still looking for artists to lead the revolution in 2023 it's time to eject your copy of American Idiot out of the car stereo and crack open some Marx

Conservative middle class white people invading the most intimate aspects of rap culture since about 2016 has been an absolute disaster for the genre and culture

Since 2016? Try since 2004 with the New Workout Plan. The sites namesake is who kicked off the process

It really begins with The Chronic in 1992 but that's a separate convo

But at this point these corny white boys are like running the show for hip hop media rn. In terms of the music they're still on the fringe (but encroaching to the core by the day), but the leading hip hop commentators are economically privileged white guys who barely like rap to begin with or bozos like Akademiks. The old guard a bunch of washed sellouts too

G-Funk was bad for hip hop

I don't expect anything. Just saying that Kendrick music is incredibly tonedeaf

I don't think any of his music aside from maybe some of Mr. Morale is tonedeaf lol

It's a product, and piece of art, before anything else, but I think he's sincerely passionate about what he raps about even if he isn't an expert on the subject or a politically involved person (let alone a revolutionary). We all know he does some solid charity work and, for a celebrity, I don't know what more you can expect. That's not their lanes

That's one album in his discography and I conceded that a good portion of that is pretty tonedeaf and bougie. Bro is a capitalist at day's end don't expect too much lmao

But S.80-DAMN. bro was on point 90% of the time, 100% of the time in the case of GKMC and 99% in the case of TPAB ("Mortal Man" was kinda corny if well intentioned)

I respect TPAB for its ambition, passion, and scope but the whole comparing himself to Nelson Mandela thing was so lame

I don't even fault him for the fake Pac interview, it has its place in Kendrick's lore and personal story. But defending a bunch of random famous black people that run the gamut from Malcolm X to Michael Jackson and lumping them all together was peak #BlackExcellence liberalism lmao, never mind comparing himself to Nelson Mandela because he dropped back to back classics

  • drake dropped some excellent stuff after just giving y’all garbage and you have kendrick on your minds

yeah there’s a huge void for dudes that actually are well versed in hip-hop (and actually like the genre at that) that make reviews, discuss albums or whatever else

the fact someone like Fantano has actual sway over what people think about hip hop is mind boggling lol
