It's 2024 and people still give a flying f*** about someone being labeled pop

    Embarrassing

it’s an inferiority complex with pop music

The issue is not Drake being labeled pop, the issue is that people label Drake pop as a way to dismiss his status and presence in the hip-hop genre

yeah it’s dismissing the fact that drake is rooted in hip hop and always caters to rap fans, it’s just not the rap they consider to be the best or that deep

Mos said it was likeable, which is cool, he liked his pop songs enough to cover it

it’s an inferiority complex with pop music

For some people this is true.

But for me it bothers me because it feels like people who do usually dismiss something as “pop” are doing it in a disrespectful way, because like you said there’s an inferiority complex behind the branding of “pop music”

Like it’s never dished out in a positive way

Drake's music sounds good in Target. His music sounds good in a lot of settings. A lot of hip hop sounds good in Target.

Idk when genre discussions got so annoying for me but here we are lol

genre discussions were always lame lowkey lmao, i kinda got the hint when i saw some RYM niggas in a server adamantly trying to argue Rodeo wasn’t trap music and was “””Houston rap”””

    like yeah sure buddy

any way here’s something kind of positive:

Here’s mos and drake both having songs singing about heartbreak:

And here’s them re-purposing HOV songs

    Loved all these songs

imo either label isnt correct, its just modern hip hop

trap music is the subject matter not the sound, travis dont sell d**** and rap about it

Nah Travis ain’t trap. He ain’t whippin up babies, workin his wrist, serving junkies or anything like that.

I always categorized him in my head as southern pop rap tbh.

as a 25 year old thats listened to drake since i was 11 i dont get what this nigga did to yall. like this is clearly one of the greatest rappers to ever do this but just because he sings his hooks now he a popstar. literally there is no difference between drake and future yet drake is called the pop star. why cant you sing without being called a pop star

i think the real things people can criticize drake on isnt even talked about, people just dont like this nigga.

like am i insane? did i not listen drake dominate an entire decade with a pen that had the greatest artist of all time doing tricks on that s***

ngl if i was that nigga id be evil too

Greatest artist of all time????? Lmao listen to other s*** man.

  • Mr Carter

also pop is about more than singing, its about the sound, the production you choose, etc

Also about writing. Which I think is incredibly important to remember. The bet pop artists have been Trojan horses

Hip Hop isn’t just talking about the struggles you described

never said it was, but its one of the many shades of hip hop that relates you to the culture. there are 1,000 ways to do that
