thats not pandering
why wouldnt you want an artist to take their time to deliver their best s***?
He does nothing but drop an album that has to be perfectly curated. He knows critics will eat that up and his fans.
He doesn’t do anything for the culture really. No random EPs, mixtapes or anything. Also things artist do to compete for the top spot in the game.
Kendrick isn’t good at features bro
Compare him to Drake and Cole and he is embarrassed in that department
This
Drake had a better/more memorable feature verse then Kendrick on F***in’ Problem as well
If you can't see that Kendrick has surpassed Wayne by now, then you just don't know music and that's OK.
They both one-up each other in certain criterias. Kendrick never had that absolute chokehold Wayne had but Kendrick crushes him when it comes to bodies of work
Nobody is suggesting to completely remove the impact of a quality album I just think when you want to be known as THE GUY or in that echelon of being remembered forever it goes beyond that is all I’m trying to say at least
I think albums are weighed th3 most. Artists even say this. In the overall conversation it's albums and skill set.
Lauryn Hill literally is the goat female rapper because she has the best album bro.
Everything counts but nothing counts more than albums
Kendrick always had the potential to be, I think TPAB and the impact socially that it had an Alright had, may have changed the course of how Kendrick wanted his career to go. Cause he was on demon time, I wanna be the man energy when control dropped. Think his purpose to himself has just evolved. And thats cool. But if you not dropping every year and shifting culture constantly, you cant be compared to hov and wayne. Thats it.
Yeah hip-hop is about dominating and Kendrick ain't got that consistent output
If you didn't grow up with that from a artist like Wayne you wouldn't understand

Drake and Cole never f***ing miss when they hop on another rappers beat, it’s incredible
Kendrick always decides to do some weird singing s*** or goes super lyrical miracle individual smh

I’d honestly forget Kendrick exists had people not brought him up in conversations like this

yall make up the most ridiculous stipulations to discredit this man

I disagree with the he can’t be up there if he doesn’t drop often take. Kendrick doesn’t have to drop every year. His bodies of work are masterpieces and that’s what really matter. Why drop every year and potentially ruin a nearly perfect discography when he can take his time and give us more masterpieces? He’s a quality over quantity type guy and more rappers need to be like that.

He’s dominated like what? One track? Control verse and even that verse in retrospect was severely overrated.

I’m just saying that a Kendrick feature run wouldn’t be a good move for him, he never was that type of rapper
He does nothing but drop an album that has to be perfectly curated. He knows critics will eat that up and his fans.

Do yall realize Kendrick had a career before 2017?
He needs to put out like 3 more albums to be on that level but idk if he is capable of doing that within the next 2 decades

Fair but I think the issue is when we view those albums through that lens of being classics of the genre are we saying that based on the totality of it, specific songs that were culturally shifting, highest highs, being unique or experimental, etc. I’m just seeing people throw the word “flawless” or “10/10” and I’m sorry but that’s completely subjective and using that as your argument is weak to me personally

Didnt say just drop all the time. I said it a few pages ago, to be compared to cultural icons like Hov and Wayne, you have to impact the culture consitently, start trends, impact the pop culture world as well as the streets, pave the way for future artists, and dominate statistically as well.

Here we go with the critic bait s***
average person in 2021 is definitely putting Kendrick over Wayne cause of recency bias
Drake - Runs every single year even when not putting out a project just by doing a feature run
Kendrick - drops a classic album and disappears for years before dropping another. Has a feature here or there that’s fine but overall not very memorable.
