  • Theres something about someone being so popular and polarizing that things we hardcore fans find obvious that casuals miss or completely overlook

So what are some things about Drake that completely go over the heads of normies

  • ·

he eats at the coolest restaurants

  • He drinks girl drinks

  • That he's just another human being on this planet, like the rest of us.

  • I think even for Drake fans, but especially his detractors, his talent as a producer gets completely overlooked.

Like, a lot of the songs that you love he's writing, workshopping them, putting them together.

Even on the songs that he didn't write the lyrics to, he has to actually choose the demo / reference (which is a talent within itself, a talent that people who don't know ball just dismiss), then he breaks the demo down to what's usable vs what isn't, what he has to add, etc.

This is why when ppl get on him for ghostwriting don't even realize that they are indirectly proving his producing talent and his ear as being generational.

Again, he's so great that you'll hear these songs like Nokia and think it's a given, but like, 98% of all rappers would have heard that idea and passed on it.

I could actually argue drake's skill as a producer is greater than his ability as a rapper

    100%

I also would add it's undervalued how strong his own songwriting is. Not just bars, but real songwriting.

  • His skill as a song writer.

  • Never ducked a fade
    Put artists on
Put hip hop on a bigger platform
    Put his people on
    Gives back to the community

None of this is groundbreaking but I think it’s easy to look at the moments without thinking of the whole picture. He has been hip hop since 2009. I was in high school then and I’m approaching my mid 30s now. Just mind boggling

Yeah agreed and I think when people hear 'songwriting' they tend to think it's ONLY about lyrics.

Someone had to choose the Janice idea

Someone had to choose the Nokia idea

Someone had to choose the Jumbotron idea

These are not automatic. Plenty of artists would pass on these ideas. That is producing, that is songwriting, and it's kind of Drake's secret sauce because in addition to him being lyrically inclined, it's his ability to consistently hear what would and what wouldn't work in the marketplace.

  • probably songs like i get lonely too, like i'm supposed to, songs like that that you gotta look for to find
