only Dispatch for me. i respect the attempt but he wound up deeper up his own ass than any director has since Aronofsky did The Fountain.

I can see where you’re coming from. I don’t think the anthology format lends itself the best to emotional attachment, but I still generally find it tasty on a moment to moment level.

super in. love the setting and the idea of a wes alien movie is just too good.

only complaint tho is this trailer makes it seem like some of the new actors for wes are trying a little too hard to give a "wes anderson movie" performance.

i do wish wes collaboarted with jeffrey wright earlier tho. god damn do they fit well together

just watch Peele's Nope and maybe Cowboys & Aliens

I just dont understand wes anderson
nothing about all the actors showing no emotion makes me want to watch his movies

    Humor is subjective
The deadpan delivery adds to a lot of the comedy IMO

I loved the format and the individual stories were good, but I wish it had done a better job making me care about any of the actual magazine staff.

Murray died and I felt nothing

I think thats part of what makes it interesting. The emotion is in there. You just gotta find it through the dialogue and actions moreso than facial expressions and overt symbols of affection.

I think the newspaper staff were more of a thematic idea than actual characters. I don’t know if they needed to be more fleshed out, I’m not sure that was the point. It’s a little like Jude Law in Grand Budapest Hotel.

“I’ve had a rough year dad” will forever be one of the most emotional lines. So simple and perfectly timed.

Yeah I could see that perspective. I guess the difference to me is that Jude Law was a tool to bounce off of other interesting characters in the hotel.

But nothing interesting happened in the magazine building. Even when there was drama, I cared about none of it. Entire scenes there felt pointless.

I'm not trying to be a hater, but....

I'm very much over Wes Anderson's style. All his movies feel the same, and when he first popped with Rushmore and Royal Tenenbaums, I was all about it. It was great, it was unique, and it was hilarious in a very deadpan way. When Life Aquatic came out, I was lining up at the cinema. But now that he's still, 20 years later, filming in the same style... I can't get into it anymore. Moonrise Kingdom was the last film of his I watched. And it was good... I'm not even saying his movies became bad. They are just too familiar, too much of the same style, even if the plots are unique.

This trailer looks good if you're still into wes anderson. I am not.

You say this without seeing anything after moonrise kingdom?

your diagnosis is correct in a way - i've always wanted him to go back and make something more tangible like royal tenenbaums - but you should defo give some of them a watch. they look like they're all style and quirk but they have heart for sure

Grand Budapest felt like a turning point to me and kinda like a culmination of his style

unfortunately his subsequent films haven't quite reached the same heights imo
