ily my brother hope you’re great

tbh i like okh more and more it’s scary

    it’s top 5, above ewbaite

also info i tagged u on: ALL songs are 100% solo cuomo written except all my favorite songs which has cowrites and also strings recorded elsewhere which leads me to believe it’s a later addition

also tracklist on cover is cuomos own handwriting which is a first since pinkerton and it has a band photo recording in studio in black and white while sure that’s a tradition it heavily reminds me of the pinkerton band photo shot

we truly have a new classic how the album grows for you tho???

This feels the most personal project since Pinkerton so that makes sense.
I could see my favorite songs being a late addition. Maybe either rivers or the label were afraid there was no “hit” but tbh I don’t think this album needed one.

I think it’s really good. I love how clean the drums are mixed in it. Numbers is probably my favorite. I feel pretty safe putting it in my top 5, top 3?? Idk, even though white album feels like rivers didn’t really want to make it, i still think those tracks stick with me a lot. Will have to see in time

    that’s true
it’s prolly on the long run from front to back the most rivers personal

yeh i reckon it has to be label, crush moves like that - they decide on the tracklist too which ruins the vision, they put all on top whats commercial appealing and more ds stuff on the back but it’s what it is if it can help commercially wise, this album tracklist did seem to have all transitions so maybe this was more on the bands creativity decision and label didnt intervene too much?

still a solid welcome and makes for great single and introduction to the whole album and what it’s about and i can tell why they would do that anyway bc a classical symphony isn’t easy to sell

numbers so beautiful i think white was a compromise but there’s still creativity to it he tried a different approach lyrically and brought up some personal stories in there so it’s not alll like him blocking out but it definitely is the compromise so he could do pcific - plus they had just got on crush who are superfans and actually FORMED the label for them so they prolly really pushed for a color album and return to form with jake sinclair

still putting white over but okh might be better as an album idk

It seems pretty intentional sequencing, with all my favorite songs tacked on front to generate the most plays, but tbh it transitions pretty well into aloo gobi so idk.

I saw you mentioned that track list thing with crush before. Have they been dictating tracklist since the beginning? I feel like maybe rivers was joking about it?? I just can’t imagine any artist being so hands off they’d just continuously let a label decide the track list.

Yeah pacific daydream definitely feels like the album rivers wanted to make and Jake talked him out of it. I think there’s definitely creativity in it, and rivers got to do some cool things. But I think the fact that they already phased it out of their set lists says a lot.

idk rivers is pretty genuine just did an interview where when asked about the hella mega tour instead of trying to hype ppl to still go for it when it does gets on the roads he says idk what’s happening i like it at home - i think covid made him realize he hates touring and that’s why he’s making so much new music for next year

he said he didn’t even know what song was closing van weezer as of some week ago and went on to say crush always decides that, seems like it’s out of his hands i don’t think he has that kind of joke, he been dirty by geffen before it’s just how the business works for him ig, crush been getting lotta hate from the fanbase how they handled van weezer and okh - rivers seemed to have moved on a while ago and was still clueless on the updates for vw so idk how they did white and okh or black but tbh on block for example you do hear the same pattern all the hits are packed the front, i can see that with okh with the bops being all there too

i think jake is supportive - he’s a massive weezer fanboy but he produces panic at the disco too so he likes to get that out of weezer, he worked on PD i think so idk talked him out is strong they prolly had a deal you do whatever you want on this but i got my hands on this, jake was very open during the making of white with the fanbase and one dam who asked if they tried do you wanna get high without palm muting on the verses (bc palm muting for oldheads = weezer post pinkerton so they want it specifically one way at every detail down as if the song isn’t already reminiscing of pinkerton enough NO RIVERS HOLD YOUR GUITAR PICK LIKE THIS LIKE YOU USED TO) and at my surprise jake said that they did try a take but it just wouldn’t work out so to me that was a give away of jakes power on white and that he’s most likely behind the “easter eggs” to older songs and told rivers how to do this and that which explains rivers comments on “felt like making the blue album again”

TBF while ironically enough PD was grammy nominated and has their best charting singles in forever - after that TEAL was an even bigger overwhelming hit so that took a lot of spots on the set lists, pinkerton is gone and so is maladroit, ewbaite too so it’s not that targeted, their live sets are hits packed

it’s sad tho it sounds like we’re getting a surprise bag

i want the vision the same rivers who fought with ric ocasek while making the blue album for the mics position for the drums
