    I appreciate Pinkerton now.

The notoriety this album seems to have - the kind of notoriety that makes some fans say it's superior to their debut - is often attributed to how sincere and brave Rivers Cuomo is in presenting himself as a complete emotional mess. I'd agree Pinkerton is a brave album, one that flaunted convention and expectation to fearlessly "do its own thing". On the other hand, I don't see it as a very sincere album.

The emotions are there, Cuomo puts himself into his character completely, but these are not songs about his actual life. He's singing about the life of a high school student, not his own. The Jen, Lynn and Catherine of "Tired of Sex" don't exist. The lesbian who broke his heart probably doesn't either. Why would an actual rockstar be impressed anyone listened to Green Day.

I know there is a series of interviews out there somewhere that explains how some of these songs are based on a p*** binge while recovering from an injury or something, and "The Good Life" makes a lot of sense with this in mind. Otherwise, Pinkerton is powerfully delivered but utter nonsense.

Charisma is charisma. The lyrics want to tell you one story, a story of a guy down on his luck trying to keep his cool, but there's a lot of charisma here. These songs have attitude, energy and, most of all, self-belief. This isn't an album by a bunch of nerds who are about to give up; it's genuinely exciting. Guess what, it turns out being powerfully delivered is enough for a Weezer album.

Across the sea is real tho

ok this is my early album 5 tracklist @HeyFella :

    1 modern dukes (2002-07-02 version)
    2 superstar (2002-07-02 version)
    3 acapulco (2002-07-02 version)
4 queen of earth (2002-07-16 version)
    5 mad kow (2002-07-02 version)
    6 hey domingo! (2002-06-29 version)
    7 untenable (2002-07-16 version)
    8 blowin’ my stack
    9 little songs (2002-07-02 version)
10 mansion of cardboard (2002-07-02 version)
    11 lullaby (2002-07-02 version)
12 everybody wants a chance to feel all alone (acoustic office)
13 the organ player (2002-07-02 version)

you can try to playlist that with the youtube uploads of them? however you guys wanna consume it

wanted to cut down to 12 but acapulco is original and helps to set up queen of earth which is too out of the blue, very dark for weezer - for acapulco is necessary bc without it it’s hard to place queen of earth without having a weird mood but this order is really tight, tried space out the best between opening hard but keeping heavy hitters for later too so it’s well adjusted in flow

amazing set of solid songs all in all

@Womanpuncher69 if you wanna try that too, these are abandonned songs cut down to the best and put together from the early stages of working on what would become make believe, some great stuff there no skips tbh

artwork idk why not the mb background art?

or i could look for something new
or one of the other arts included in the booklet

    what u guys say

Wow that was fast. Thank you so much.

I remember liking the 6/25 version of Queen of Earth more but I’m not as familiar with the other one.

really? the other one is more popular among the fanbase, i get you tho with the strings more present you get a better idea of how bond esque it is but with the version i picked it fits in better for the album coherent sound, song alone is so dark so picking the one with the strings would make it even more alienated to the rest of the songs

i think altho i love those songs the flow might benefit from taking off acapulco and queen of earth

plus weezer taught me 10 album tracks for rock albums is the goat

also maybe superstar would open better than modern dukes now ive relistened again

I remember when the song hash pipe came out I only heard the radio/video edit where they replace “hash pipe” w “half pipe” and thought it was a song about skateboarding

hahahhaha makes sense, skate was like the biggest thing back then

    that’s so funny tho

it’s even funnier as the album is famously known to have no official lyrics to it like if you get the cd there’s nothing on the booklet regarding the lyrics so im prettttyyyy sure he sings “i got my eyes wide” in it but for a long time fans misheard it with “i got my ass wide” @PerryTheMADLADYPUS

Brightening Day might grow on me but mostly I found it kinda bland. Feels kinda like a demo or a rough draft.

yeeeh it’s def the most pop punk energy song they ever did, production doesn’t help it but i can see it in a power pop pov, just think it’s one of those effective infectious short ultra pop songs from that era it would make for a nice lil track, lots of sugar going thru it but is short enough that it gives a rush without being an overdose

Ok I listened through Everything Will Be Alright In The End, and I dont really have much to say, its an enjoyable album, there's no songs I hate, and there are songs that I enjoy a lot like Da Vinci and Foolish Father and the last three numbered songs. One thing I noticed is the guitar is more noticeable, not saying Rivers is bad at the guitar on previous records, but I just notice it more on this album.

Also Ithaka you think ur slick with ur name I know where ya got it from now
