1. Found footage is probs my fav horror sub-genre for multiple aesthetic and meta reasoning's so that factors in a bit. Basically reinvented the wheel of how to terrify within the medium of film by way of negative space.
2. Probably one of the most distinct films tonally ever and brings out some of the strongest emotions ever from me via the characters interactions at such a steady pace that very few films achieve. Idk i feel kinda alone on this but everything is so strong for me from aesthetic, to the emotions the characters bring out. Also great ending. All of this packaged in a fairly short flick. GOAT imho.

Yeah it's crazy how much they really just did their own thing, broke all the rules and ultimately kicked off a whole new wave

Like, with so many other horror trends you often have multiple origin points (ie. slashers being born from Halloween but that was heavily inspired by Black Christmas, which in turn has a lot of giallo DNA) but with found footage there really is just the one definitive beginning

insanely big The Thing fan, i loved most of the Suspiria remake but i haven’t seen the original, i honestly keep putting it off cus i wanna binge dario argento movies sometime but i feel like that’s a great start. and i definitely should check out day of the dead, i need to finally sit down and just go through all of romeros 70s and 80s stuff bc i love everything i hear like Martin too. thank you sm friend

Exactly! They completely invented a new way to approach storytelling and aesthetic within film with basically no basis for it. Complete lightning in a bottle moment for filmmaking honestly i feel like it gets overlooked within it's importance cuz most people didn't end up liking the movies it spawned (which generally i like but thats just me).
