(quoted wrong post lol but wtv)

lil treat volume 2 to make up for the extended wait on weezers camp, more alike music, as promised:

this band is very dear to me, there’s two singers songwriters and one of them is known in the weezer timeline for having done the homie album in collaboration with another weezer fan

that homie tribute album consists of them recording some of the demos for the attempted homie album (it was a side project rivers had post pinkerton when he was in boston, more country inspired but never saw the light of the day, all we got from it were live recordings bootlegs of these songs as he premiered them live with his band before canceling it but that’s about it) but also some abandoned songs for weezers third album before it turned into what would become the green album

it all comes super coherent and professional, it’s the closest we will ever get to a full version of it, similar to how that group of fans got together to make, as much as they could, fleshed out finished product of songs from the black hole project

the talent is immense and the performance really gives the songs justice, i consider some of these songs to be one of rivers finest work

however, here’s two for one if you want something not weezer related: as i was saying one of these guys had his own band, they never took off or anything, just local stuff, only did one ep then broke up, but what an amazing of indie piece it is

weezer infused but more so smashing pumpkins and some beach boys, great alternative stuff with hooks for days, stellar performance all around:

if you like what you hear here’s a link to stream the ep in full:
    https://thelunatic.bandcamp.com/album/milk

it’s free to listen but if you fw it feel free to pay for it, they really aren’t a thing (their videos on youtube have like 500 views max and s*** dropped in 2011) so it would be cool

i can guarantee you that no one else other than me will ever bring this band up to y’all lol but it’s a shame, they’re crazy talented and you guys would love it i think

@HeyFella this the homie thing i was mentioning

i HIGHLY recommend it to you

if you like that kind of stuff there’s also some other fans who got together and made a complete finished version of songs from the black hole (with female singers with the attributed roles)

it’s amazing, the song is really great looking back, it starts thin with very light verses, a beat and just like two chords strummed very little, they chorus beautifully glows into a beach boys pastiche that is like my favorite section and then that killer bridge

it kills me that we had the chance of them playing some of this material live when it debuted and ppl took it for granted like how can you hear this and not think it’s classic crafted weezer song?

such amazing lyrics all over the album too f*** ...

I only really liked Weekend Women and QB Blitz on that record. I guess it was just such a drop for me after White. I gotta give it another shot.

i can see that pov, i was ready for it and excited i didn’t want another white, white was so great at doing what it did: re-establish that rivers can do another blue if he feels like it even if he reaching the 50s, so when that was done and fans were satisfied or reassured and haters proven wrong i wanted to hear what he was into and pd hit that right, the pop but tastefully done with the experience of white you know?

  • Dec 26, 2020

one of the times i saw weezer live when island in the sun came up rivers just played it all by himself, did a loop in front of us of the lead riff, then drum beat then started singing to them along with his acoustic and then the whole band joined at one of the last chorus or so

    was so amazing

  • Dec 26, 2020

The melody for the verses were apparently used for Byzantine and the hook also does sound like something. It’s super catchy but I can’t put my finger on what it is.

what a great song, really sounds like if beatles didn’t broke up and then went back to their old sound lol

so weird they only did one album especially with such a hit

I agree. Always loved that one. I get in such a massive Britpop mood a couple times a year and that’s of course in the rotation.

think it’s a classic tbh, straight forward power pop, sure the sound and performance is summum monotone, boy did rivers did a 180 from pinkerton! but it’s just bangers, blasting all the way through with hooks for days, altho i could alter it with like switching crab with this song and maybe other b sides in to make it even better, but ive come to accept it as such

shout out robb banks for the green album love

i won with my bet but there’s even more thats a lot of faves photograph instant classic

like glorious day but if i would have to make the album differently that’s where it can get a bit redondant so id prolly put this b side to add varietybut it maybe cuts the flow of the album tho

id prolly put starlight instead to keep the same energy but have even more melodies that goes with the concept of early beatles but with loud guitars, check for yourself above i posted that song in the post danny replied to, it’s really good

I liked it. Pretty monotone as you say but short enough for it not to bother me that much. Put it somewhere in the middle of their discog
