Honestly though even the albums near the bottom for me I enjoy a lot of songs on. I like when they try new s*** and am definitely not one of the fans that hates all their “pop stuff”
that’s the spirit king
but even if you didn’t that’s coo tho

I respect it! Tbh I still have a lot of love for Red since it’s the era when I first got into them, might have to bump that higher if I change mine.

Nice! And don't get me wrong there's a lot of cool stuff going on within EWBAITE, Back to the Shack & Go Away are really fun singles & I love the closing trilogy of tracks but overall the album just leaves a really sour taste in my mouth because it just feels like it was made for a veeeery specific subset of fans and not fully out of passion, to me at least. I was talking to ithaka about this the other day and to me EWBAITE just feels like it was made to prove to the "everything post-pinkerton is garbage" crowd that yes, if they wanted to they could fully go back to that guitar sound they're all craving, they just don't want to. Which, to me, explains why that album is rated so highly in sectors of the web where those fans frequent, though i totally understand having a liking to the album cause there is a lot of cool stuff about it; it just feels like to me that there is a looooot cooler stuff going on post-pinkerton within weezer and idk EWBAITE just doesn't stand out to me, though i completely understand why it would to someone else.
tl;dr: EWBAITE feels, to me, like an apology for things that shouldn't be apologized for, lol.
i still think rivers put his heart into it, songs like foolish father surely means a lot for him and is personal, also i respect that even when going throwback it’s never all the way like just copy paste it still has some new elements but yeah i don’t go crazy or get chills from it, it’s nice and has some great highs
i do loooooooove da vinci and i love lonely girl sounds like green era song just more nirvana esque

definitely! Yah "not fully out of passion" might've been the wrong wording for it, once Rivers really put his mind to it his heart was for sure fully there but I guess the better wording would be his hand was kinda forced to do it... if that makes sense lol. Idk and I agree there's cool ideas going on within it but it just doesn't stick out to me and kinda just felt like a force of hand.

I've heard this take before, I get it for sure. I do think White is overall the better balance of their sort of "back to our roots" approach with some fresh musical ideas.
