used to hate back to the shack but i like it it grooves it’s a cool album but it’s cool in a way to feel reassured and get recent weezer traditional songs.. not bc the album is something fun... i was so pissed at the hey hey hey on anonymous thankfully it’s over

these fans are just nerds man like greedy nerds they don’t love weezer they just love a concept of it they can’t let go

Honestly is just SOOOOOOOOOOOOOO corny to me that when it comes to Weezer people just don't give a s*** about creativity or authors vision. Like it has to be the exact version of how they found Weezer or else it's just completely horrid and they go into it wanting to hate it. The crazy thing to me that I was thinking about this afternoon is that if Looking for a fight was ACTUALLY released (like i wish it was) people would've INSTANTLY hated it bc it's Weezer being in even the slightest proximity to hip hop even tho Rivers completely flipped the drums and made one of the catchiest/freshest pop songs I've heard in forever in just a demo. It's legit INSANE to me how anti-creativity people are.

it prolly affects rivers in someway and it bothers me but he’s still doing it his way so it’s fine

ppl can’t let go of some preconcept idea they have wether they’re fan or hate weezer it’s the same

isn’t that funny? how so similar it is and close that is?

both such claimed fans and those haters act just the same...

that dog. are an LA band from 92 and dropped their first album in 93, this was around weezer got signed and was working on the blue album - they were doing club shows and what not and opened for that dog, at that time rivers even wrote a song about them titled “punk rock girl” which he demoed, it was never heard of until now he coded his own website and sells his demos on his market

on that first album they dropped that dog had a video shot by spike jonze, it’s not a reach to assume that from this to the undone and buddy holly videos shot by spike jonze, there was prolly some link and spike heard of weezer through that dog or what not which led to that

what’s interesting about that dog is they are all females but one guy in the band and most of them are daughters of important ppl: the singer i believe is the daughter of a producer, but most importantly and what picks our interest here is rachel the bassist of the band is the daughter of charlie haden

may he rest in peace- for those unaware charlie was a longtime prolific jazz bassist that goes back to the 50s and a contributor to the free jazz and avant garde jazz scene with his work with ornette coleman, he is indeed the bassist on this iconic and very important album to jazz culture:

(fun fact one of rachel sisters is now married to jack black! all of haden’s daughters do sing together too)

ofc as the blue album came out and took over the world like a hurricane, that dog were now the ones opening for weezer, rivers still had them in mind and was grateful - before the follow up to the blue album became the legendary pinkerton it was first a space rock opera fully fletched out with multiple characters of different genders that had each singers attributed to these roles with one of them being rachel haden as laurel, the project was titled songs from the black hole

but that’s it for that, if i get into that im gonna digress hardcore, the reason I bring this up and charlie haden’s legacy and own work is because rivers father himself was a great altho short lived jazz musician too

frank cuomo was a jazz drummer in the sixties to seventies, never went big but nether less found a spot on a 1970 wayne shorter album, a blue note record none the less! the most iconic jazz label, and boy did he killed that b****, here is a song where he snaps out and does a dope ass drum solo at 3 minutes mark:

it seems to be the only notable recording we know of in which he is credited

this was recorded two months after rivers birth, he was the one who got rivers obsessed over soccer - he missed rivers birth to stay home and watch the 1970 world cup live on tv, in fact he named rivers after the three stars of the 1970 world cup: riva (italy), rivera (italy) and rivelino (brazil) - rivers was born with a leg shorter than the other, it didn’t stop him to play soccer and trying to go pro but either his shorter leg stopped him from entering that or he had an injury that stopped him I don’t recall, but this is actually what led him to become full time musician, if not for that weezer probably would’ve never happened?

after the blue albums success he went under surgery to correct his leg which got him in a hospital bed and walking around a cane, if you’re familiar you’ve already guessed that this sounds like the lyrics of the good life mf that’s because that what the songs about and when it was written, the xray photo of his broken bone was used as the back cover of the ep of the good life

frank disappeared from rivers and his brother’s life and moved to germany where he had another kid who himself went semi pro on soccer, it runs in the family

but they’ve since reconnected and made peace, some years ago in 2015 frank got on stage for the first time with rivers:

frank is the subject of some of the most crucial weezer song, such as say it ain’t so

s***'s just so crazy to me man, people are so caught up in other people's perceptions of their taste in art.

That's why I'm happy Weezer is going about releasing ok human the way they are, none of the comments on the albums sound or direction have been big news so its just gonna be this huge stylistic bomb dropped on the music world, Weezer basically going into uncharted territory and nobody has a chance to make up an opinion before hand based on other people's takes on singles, they instead just gotta listen to it in the moment and sit with how the music is making them feel. Gonna be crazy to see.

just gonna be a beautiful sight to see Weezer just drop this masterpiece on everyone after years of s***posting. What I'm just waiting to see is if people actually embrace the record and realize what it's giving to the music world or if they'll just write it off cuz "lol weezer" knowing full well if literally any other group in the world dropped it off description alone it would be an instant rym classic.

But no matter what the reaction, I'm beyond excited. Best month early bday present ever a complete classic album

yah smashing is definitely doing the best out of all the groups i mentioned but still..... i ain't checking for that s***

bro I'll NEVER understand EWBAITE stans, like it has great songs on it but it felt like a compromise record honestly. White Album was a return to form while still having Rivers current personality and obsessions put into it, it was blue album for the now. EWBAITE is cool...... but like nothing exciting, just kinda a record threw out there to prove to haters "yah we can still make exactly what you want if we want to" and its like, bro thats cool and its a fun record but you really don't find ANYTHING else more interesting in what they've done post-EWBAITE?

Foolish Father is like a top 20 song of there’s for me. Most of that album connects heavy with me. I get what you’re saying tho. I think the sound on it is unique enough especially with the theme more of the demos hinted at being more world history and iconography with stuff like Da Vinci, Cleopatra, British Are Coming, etc. We Are The Indians is another one that recently comes to mind from the demos.
