movies/tv shows aren't really my thing but I prefer movies to tv shows I guess

if you have the patience for AoT you might come around to movies... for me it took seeing a few really good ones kinda on accident

i think the overwhelming letterbox centeric perspective kinda killed movies for me if im being honest. and this was before letterbox existed ofc, but i think it's SOOOO evident on that site

this way of thinking honestly made me feel like movies were whole pieces that were made to be broken into tiny pieces. if it wasnt the techniques used, or rationalizing shots taken, then it's a***yzing the plot as it happens, and trying to reach the end before the movie does, but being upset if the movie DID go where you thought it was going to go.

i spoke to my friend about this who's super into film, and he said he likes them simply because of how they make him feel and that's it. just watch and see how you feel. and it really made me kinda step back and reassess.

and i think it's something people by and large just dont do anymore in terms of viewing movies on a whole level.

like with music-- you can a***yze why a song might make you feel sad-- well it's in this key, and used this chord, for this progression, which does this or creates this, etc etc. but i think most people dont think about music that way. you just hear it and know how you feel immediately, and my friend said thats kinda the perspective i need to watch movies with.

im not saying that theres no value in this type of a***ysis, but sometimes i feel some movies (and tv) are made with such a focus on creating a product that is worthy of being "watched at 0.25 speed and here's what i found!!!" and they miss out on creating something that can create an impression in under 2 hours with one viewing.
