Y’all think Rivers will ever revisit Songs from Black Hole like Brian Wilson and Smile?
mmm that’s a good question, i actually asked myself this the other day.. because i know rivers has considered a LOT of projects or revisiting some stuff that he eventually scrapped mostly because, it doesn’t feel right for him as he rightfully, artistically, wants to make something new for himself and the audience
but it would be cool tho wouldn’t it? everyone originally involved in it are still around and sounding good vocally 🤔 maybe adjust one or two lyrics
he never turns down anything forever, when asked about Homie for example (the other great lost project next to SFTBH) he justified that the tapes are forever lost because left in the studio they were recorded which has shut down since.. something like that, yet he said on the next album Van Weezer there’s a song that’s from the Homie material, so he’s still digging through it, who would’ve thought this would be a thing a year ago? a Homie song freshly re-recorded and finished on a new weezer album!!
SFBTH might be different because we heard most of the demos and they’re officially released? obviously there’s still obviously an opportunity there to be made by fully remaking it but it feels like it would be a last case scenario tho, but who really knows with Rivers lol think he might have already gave it a shot tbh, prolly during the years between Hurley and EWBAITE where they were tryna figure out the next move to come back from the fiasco (which is maybe why EWBAITE is sorta concept album??)
he did say one day he will release to the public EVERY weezer song recorded ever, the entire archive
There’s some fans that did came together tho to record it in full with like female singers to do the female roles and stuff, did you hear about that? it’s mostly likely the closest stuff we’ll get as of now

Yeah I did hear the cover version and it sounded pretty good. It could honestly work as a musical if it were a little more fleshed out lol
But id definitely like to hear Rivers take it on again one day

i’ll have to make a post about it itt someday but yeah, it sounds sometimes flat vocally bc of autotune but it’s still amazing how much work is put into it to put it together and make a full finished version, definitely gives you a bigger overall aspect on it and i agree, that was also my take away, could definitely be a great musical today
yeah Rivers and the boys on it would be something else, and with Rachel Haden singing her part.. so far I Just Threw Away The Love Of My Dreams is the only full game we have really, and what a song!
hopefully rivers would come around to it.. because when it’s them and not someone covering, it takes a whole other level like look at this Blast Off performance, with each members singing their attributed roles:

what a f***ing killer beast of a song, whew
also funny treat, live clip from 2005 where they had this recurring section of their show of bringing a random fan from the audience on stage to play guitar with them during Undone - The Sweater Song, some dude got up there and sang Blast Off lol (bad quality but you can make it out)

I'm high as a kite
🎃 QUOTE OF THE DAY 🎃
Have you listened to Weezer’s new album (black album)? How do you feel about the rock to pop change?
Billy Corgan: I am a fan of Weezer and RC’s (Rivers Cuomo) They can do no wrong in my eyes.
Ever plan on touring with Weezer?
Billy Corgan: That would be a great tour.
Weezer’s Blue Album or Pinkerton?
Billy Corgan: Any album by Weezer is great. RC is a great songwriter.

🛋 SONG OF THE DAY 🛋
“Gothic flavor, how i miss you..”

one if not my favorite off of Maladroit, it sounds so exotic, like having a drink out of a coconut while you’re chilling on a hammock.. started as an instrumental piece often performed live, ive noticed there’s several songs that starts like that in their catalogue, from Maladroit era all the way to recently, the Black album era.. some never made it pass the instrumental phase tho ig, couldn’t find fitting melody that works perhaps
they used live version of this song for some b side and they picked the best one for that, LOVE this performance even more so than the original because 1 it has a dope ass improvised bass line lil jam before it starts, so bad ass it even takes Rivers by surprises as he comments “what is this??” while looking at Scott playing it
but also the random woouuhh’s added by Rivers on top of the riff enhances even more that tropical good feel that the song has

no one knows what the title means, but Rivers has named some few other instrumental pieces that never got finished with the word “Jamb” at the end , so it’s safe to assume it’s a goofy way to say jam
as for Burndt i think it’s a subtle homage to Kurt Cobain who used to credit himself and also sign as Kurdt (because middle name Donald) during Bleach days, Rivers is such a stan he himself also did that when crediting himself uhh i think on the Black album iirc at the top of my head?
this is specifically dedicated to @grimes, i hope you’re doing good ❤️
⬜️ SONG OF THE DAY ⬜️
”Oh why, why, why do my flowers always die?” 🥀

this one comes with a nice animated video done by a fan, not official, i just really like it
anyway this my favorite off of white, kinda sounds like a red album track in how it’s creative and outside the traditional weezer sound: one of the rare ones where the piano takes the lead (the only times this happened before is on Haunt You Every Day and Run Over By A Truck and that’s it i think at top of my head mm) which is funny because Rivers usually starts his song writing on a piano, he’s actually a very skilled pianist and i’m pretty positive Ok Human will have room to let this shine all over the album
but not only that, Jacked Up doubles it down by being one of the rare songs where Rivers taps higher than ever before into his amazing falsetto outside just harmonies, i believe he’s often reluctant on that because how it can be hard to pull off every night at a show, he started doing it a bit on EWBAITE than here on white with this really out more lines into it, both of these reasons plays into why i love this song so much
and the melody, overall mood is such a standout unique feeling.. melancholic yet smoothing, this the sound he should tap more into, there’s a great balance as it sounds new yet so Rivers, the lyrics are very Pinkerton in some way.. and such a unique beat drum too, everything falls right into place for a perfect combination that makes for a modern masterpiece
shout out for @cyberkid2000 and @Bad_Finger_Boogie 🤗

would have been pretty incredible if we got a black album of this vibe

⬛️ SONG OF THE DAY ⬛️
I feel no pain, I feel no pleasure.. I only want to disappear

a timeless classic rivers song as soon as it dropped, feel like the verses could’ve been some 70s beach boys, some would say some sixties beatles feel because of that instrument, forgot what it’s called, strawberry fields type, or am i trippin?
either way, originally it was written during the sessions for “everything will be alright in the end” in a dramatically different version, had a prominent organ that gave a strong callback feel to “a whiter shade of pale” by procol harum which is probably why rivers got rid of the organ and entirely scratched the original chorus, verses are darker too, kinda like those of verses actually
unfortunately that demo is only shared among privileges stans so all that can be posted in public is a fan cover of it

either final song is forever a mood for me, it has a sentiment that can’t be put into words, the lyrics just nails it, a feeling of escapism in the most nostalgic way

Love the bouncy bass line in the verses. Great video, too, haha. Want that Telecaster Rivers is playing.

even tho rivers is the one playing that telecaster in the video it belongs to brian who recorded half of the black with it, that’s actually a limited reissued george harrison guitar that he rocked on the rooftop show
I have a Thinline from 1967 that I used and I have one of the reissued George Harrison Rosewood Telecasters that was just made recently, there are only 100 of them. (Brian Bell)
the bass on the verses is AMAZING yeah scott has been killing it lately
here’s a great acoustic performance set they did or npr, in which they play that song, a good setlist balance of old n rare stuff v new songs:

1 Longtime Sunshine
2 Living In L.A.
3 Across The Sea
4 High As A Kite

I forgot to respond to this
That was a fun little jam. Really smooth and peaceful. But I can see what you’re saying and there’s a definitely 60s/70s vibe to it.
I’ve listened to a lot of Weezer’s first 3/4 albums and bits and pieces of others over the years. I need to delve deeper at some point

think you’d dig “everything will be alright in the end” it’s a return to weezer more traditional sound but with even more guitar shredding, a mix of first three albums? but with some new bits that kinda get almost gets proggy tbh, produced by ric ocasek (who did blue and green)

I will check it out bro, I’ve always been a fan of what I’ve heard, not sure why I never went beyond those albums though lol. I did listen to that album of covers they did, it was Teal Album maybe? Anyways, I really liked that, but I’m a big fan of covers anyways lol.
the fan club has cool features, they dropped some exclusive songs on vinyls and s***
ths one still a gem, beautiful lyrics and falsetto on the bridge, when it dropped it was one of the rare times Rivers pushed it on record:
