come in my pod has always been a fav i think it’s bc of the slide guitar - i have a thing for it
it is funny tho as it’s one of the only demos where he changed the pitch on his voice audio wise afterwards like chipmunk type beat to make the feminine counter part role in the song sound feminine
I had to Google the term :slide guitar
And I recognize the sound but never knew what it was called nor that involved using a hard object
: literally never seen that before
I love ktt for these little nuggets of knowledge, so thanks fr

see at 5:09 david switches to slide guitar
you don’t need a specific guitar he just has one for it and sits down for it
it’s just the thing he puts on his finger that welll slides on the guitar neck and makes that sound where it sounds more “rounded” rather than hearing your left hand finger switch the notes on the guitar neck
pink triangle intro uses slide guitar at like 10 seconds in that’s what you hear
one of my fav slide guitar piece

it’s one element i want to push in my project of mixing surf and gothic
lotta stuff like this to play with
it’s always about picking old stuff and make something new out of it or make it cool again

I love that blues-esque sound (idk reminds me of blues but I could be wrong)
And that song is beautiful too
I really appreciate you taking the time to explain this, so again thank you 💜 ❤️

nah it’s super used in blues stuff it’s like if it’s used in rock it’s more of an exotic featuring - its housed far more in blues or especially country songs
anytime 👑

This is what I mean when I say "beach sound"
I guess it's called surf
Did the beach Boys succes make it associated with surf/Beach cuz everytime I hear that I see palmtrees and a beach or was it already called "surf"
Very much so SpongeBob vibes (no offense) lol
But mainstream media (movies, songs TV shows etc) really put this for damn near every California or Hawaï Beach scene

surf music is def not defined by slide guitar use there’s no key hit song with it but you could argue sleepwalk is surf
but that’s in retrospective bc how surf acts covered it and how it’s associated to like you said any imagery of beach or hawaii tropical exotic sensation
it’s fascinating case bc santo & johnny aren’t even californians- they’re from new york and the surf scene wasnt a thing until some few years after their song came out, and the surf scene sounds nothing like it, this is what surf music is

this song is so ahead of its time lol nothing was this aggressive like this badboy in the early sixties
this also at the same birth birthed heavy metal as you can imagine it’s pretty easy to picture this song being the father of it all
that’s why i picked on the idea of a project mixing surf and metal in a way it hasn’t been fully extended to, thres a crossover that needs to be explored
but the beach boys yes they themselves covered misirlou early on in their career and when the beach boys arrived and picked on the surf scene with that rocking sound (as it is important to note tht before the bbs surf scene as we know it was only instrumentals) and added harmonies over it with lyrics about california, sun, cars, surfin, girls on the beach and going to hawaii
therefor beach boys invented the surf imagery with words to put on it as we know it now - they’re the one who first glorified california in a fashion that we all unconsciously think of when we think of what california is, they technically put california on the map internationally and created its pop culture as crazy as this sounds
so to go back to your answer no the beach boys aren’t known for slide guitar tracks and i can’t rationalize or point down at the top of my head although im tired rn why and where california or hawaii is symbolized with slide guitar or sleepwalk the song itself
it has to do more with hawaii i think and some song from there, and ig california picked on idk
beach boys do however this song with slide guitar but this was years after surf scene was done and psychedelic rock was taking over

that’s why i want to play with slide guitar to and embrace any form of surf culture
"I just threw out the love of my dreams"
The female lead delivering
reason why i picked this compilation for you to play is that it’s mixed it so all the demos and band recordings sounds about the same so it’s coherent bc in it you have rivers home rough demos but also songs that were finished with the band in full production and delivered including i just threw out the love of my dreams with rachel haden from that dog featured on it so that’s why you finally hear one female vocals on it lol
im not a fan of the pacing of why bother in this selection but it’s heh
