I think you can love and hate your country at the same time. There’s an ideal of America that has never been realized that I think is beautiful at its core but what we have ultimately is a fractured mess. I think Bernie agreed with that too. Not getting political in here tho, just saying.

hmm im not trying to think about it too much cause i really dont like thinking about it until i just know whether i f*** w it or not, and right now this album is still kinda in limbo

but straight from the chest, i think the album is stuck between two purposes and just doesn't really execute either so it kinda just fails altogether

i dont think the album is balanced and flows particularly well, but a good chunk of the songs kinda don't really work well on their own, so i'm left needing to listen to it in full, which brings me back to an...unfulfilling(???) experience when listening to it in full

also, there's the lyrics. i always think back about my review of make believe-- when it came out, i talked about how AWESOME Rivers was at writing 'simple' lyrics that were still effective, but honestly that was more just a dig against fans of emo bands that worshipped the excess that emo bands wrote in their lyrics (for example, Circle Takes the Square - still amazing tho lol). even with that said, i still mostly believed it because Rivers DID/DOES have skill in doing that. BUT now when i go back and listen, it's so clear that those lyrics are just ....i dont want to say lazy, but what else could it be? lack of awareness?

and it's not like he CANT do it anymore or that he doesn't but there's so many times that he's doing so good and then just f***s it up and im like why??????????

honestly for me this like is the equivalent of Rivers writing his lyrics
