I’m waiting for the review embargo to end tn at 6…gonna be fun
Brother it might be brutal...
It took so damn long to get there but the singing of HUT in the bed was the best moment of the film. Up close and personal like the rest of the movie but actually emotional and not the least bit awkward like some of the film felt

I’m expecting like 15-35
It won’t hurt him too much because people will move on quick though unlike the album. I didn’t think it was utter s*** but I already see the vibes of critics who went to see it and it’s what I was expecting even before seeing it.
his acting has gotten a lot better! which i love to see def has improved since the idol
that's kinda hilarious cause this was shot like 4-5 months after idol finished production lol

No yeah like the timing it came out is kind of helping it
People are still talking about Sinners & Thunderbolts, Final Destination and Mission Impossible are about to come out
This is just going to be a small thing when it's all said and done

Abel gonna crash out like in the movie
Abel gonna crash out like in the movie
I feel bad cause I don’t think it was all that bad it just needed some tweaking. Plus following up The Idol & this being more personal for him i’m unsure how well he’ll take the reception. I assume he’s a bit battle tested by now lmaoo
as soon as he starts to lose his voice (singing Wake Me Up) on stage that’s when he sees Jenna in the crowd for the first time and she stays with him until he starts to finds his voice again (singing the final track HUT) in the bed at the end of the movie. maybe she’s supposed to represent his mental block that stopped him from singing
Jenna Ortega plays his Anima. Anima is the feminine spirit that bridges the gap between the conscious and unconscious. Jenna’s character was trying to help him get over his complexes towards how he views himself and women, and other things I guess. Also trying to help him stop compartmentalizing his persona (Weeknd) with himself (Abel). The entire film is based on Jungian psychoanalysis and granted I’m not an expert on that but this was my current reading of the film.

I thought his performance was more vulnerable and interesting in The Idol because he wasn't afraid to make himself look like a little creep
He's definitely giving a better performance than Ortega here tho
lol already seeing a whole bunch of “worst movie of the decade” reviews online. I think people just don’t want The Weeknd in Hollywood

I am biased but it wasn’t THAT bad. Forgettable and awkward at worst

I love Abel he did a decent to good job but Jenna is much more expressive with her eyes. What problems did you have with her performance or her in general?

what do you think her burning down his house with his childhood stuff/call from her mom represented
The short of it is: if you don't like The Weeknd, you won't like the movie. If you do, you might like the movie. If you love The Weeknd you'll like the movie.
I think that's plain and simple (not counting for variables or anything)

I mean I love him and thought it was just okay
gonna see it on a bigger screen and see if that changes things. Saw it on a smaller screen. I think the strengths are the visuals and sound design.

Yeah that's not to be like a 1:1, more of a general consensus
Seeing it in Dolby last night did enhance the experience no doubt
I wonder how it's going to play at home

Well, he didn't do himself any favours with the Idol and all the mess around that. It feels like he's trying to force his way into being an actor when he really doesn't have to and doesn't really have anything new to add.
