wasnt Ye like 28 too? and Eminem?

Idk bout Em but Kanye was 24 with CD

Which he was considered "right on the cusp" of being too old and it was legit one of the things labels would use against him during the jesus walks ish and part of why they wanted to force him more as a producer because u can be "any age" behind the scenes

They really wasn't tryna hear him at lol and used every excuse they could

  • With the type of workload and discipline you need to maintain in order to create something worthwhile all while having to do a lot of stuff on your own I’m sure we will start to see even older artist getting their footing in their 30s or even 40s.

It’s not. But since then who has released a notable debut album older than them? I’m sure there’s some but I can’t think of any at the moment.

    techically nipsey hussle

I know he was active around that time but I never heard the narrative that he was too old. Always thought it was because he wasnt “super thug” or some s***, It seemed like most rappers debuted around 23-25 back then so i dont see why it wss a big deal for him if true.

yea still pretty late for todays standard.

but back then being 25+ was sort of the norm for new rappers.

Felt like rappers had more life experience before their debut which gave them that storytelling/hero’s journey effect.

I cant say we need that today because I honestly think rap is dead but if it should survive, hip hop cultures need to be more receptive to older debut rappers. at the very least 24/25 at debut

the life experience part is real. sometimes it takes years to even figure out how to write about something properly. calling your 20s late when you're writing about your life is wild lol

Some of most popular Hip-Hop artists were older/mature on their debuts.

    Nelly - 26
    Jay - 26
    DMX - 28
    Em - 27
    Missy - 26
    50 - 27
    Kanye - 26

this the age where you can be trusted moreso

the kids thinking you need to blow up at 19/20 are actually inviting to get preyed upon

You know people on the internet not going to talk about DMX legacy or arc because for them they solely discuss the "best" black man in their eyes and the one they look up to in all ways. Not the ones that have a more tragic past who never focused on getting rich to the point of selling out and becoming a brand.

That is not how people operate
