The album sales thread was made so people could discuss the commercial performance of releases without having to also discuss critical acclaim or perceived quality but since it's gotten made, it's been attacked by people who insist no one should care about sales at all because they shouldn't matter to anyone. Okay, they clearly matter to some people so leave the thread so those people can enjoy their discussions but they never leave and they'll still insist they don't care about numbers while sticking around and discussing numbers as well. I really don't get their logic.

Why are you assuming the two are related? Audiences weren't f***ing with BR2049. That movie is f***ing incredible though. The only difference is nobody gets mad when you say audiences weren't f***ing with that movie
Jun 2, 2022·3 repliesthegreatdivineI made like 10 posts going into painful detail about how much I love GKMC and I grew to love TPAB and how even though I think DAMN. is overhyped, it's still a really good album but because I also said I don't care for Kendrick's latest album and I said the album is clearly not what people are going back to based on its numbers and its performance compared to other recent high-profile releases, I've been called every name in the book and now anyone who cares about numbers at all is stupid and a nerd with no life lol. I promise you, If Kendrick's album was performing like Bad Bunny's album currently is, NONE OF THEM would be so angry. None.
They can tell that people aren't f***ing with this Kendrick album this time around and anything anybody says to reinforce that, either through numbers or just opinions, they'll get riled up. That's all that's been happening for these last 3 weeks.
I think when someone gets too attached to a artist like Kendrick to an unhealthy level like obsession they're unable to take any constructive criticism or facts that don't fit there view. It doesn't matter how much you love Kendrick because if you don't like this album too we have to find excuses for why and we might make some up too like you're just a Drake stan. You've liked Drake in the past so like every lie there's a little believability to it but really it's a coping mechanism. I like Kendrick but not to that extent to find every reason why you don't love it when I know everyone is entitled to their own opinion even if it's different than my own. If you think MMATBS is mid that's a valid opinion but some others can't accept that

e tThose are just independent observations of other artists. I’m not saying you only post Drake s*** but I’ve never seen you post a list of artists of some kind where Drake isn’t at the top and plenty of those lists exist (highest selling album lists, etc). It does feel like you leave those types of lists out for a reason.
Like I said, it's not my fault Drake usually dominates those lists.
I've made threads here about the biggest first week sales for hip-hop albums. I've made threads about the longest-charting hip-hop albums, I've made threads about the biggest streaming weeks. All those lists have dozens of names on them that I took the time to curate. Saying I'm only doing that to somehow praise Drake is silly.

I've said it before that most of this energy from Kendrick stans stems from him never receiving any kind of criticism before, online by fans or in media. People have criticized Drake and Cole to hell and back and so their fans are kinda immune now but everyone has always loved everything Kendrick has dropped and no one has ever thought his numbers were an underperformance because he didn't get his commercial breakthrough until 2017. This energy of people not feeling a new Kendrick album/people thinking a new Kendrick album is a commercial underperformance is a new feeling for his stans and I get that. Doesn't mean they get to attack people and invalidate their honest opinions about his music and it's commercial performance. That's all I'm saying.

Nope, you always add some kind of qualifier to make sure Drake is on the top of the list. Like “biggest hip hop first weeks of the 2020s” when we’re only in 2022. What's even more embarrassing about all the cope is how many of the people mad right now were here talking about how Kendrick would do 500-700k just days before the album dropped. They all had high commercial expectations for the album but when the album dropped and started underperforming, they got mad that everyone else remembered all their talk of the album performing a lot better than it ended up doing and started going at people for calling the album an underperformance based on those expectations.
