Luv cioppino
I think I remember you posting pictures of some you made
Do you usually make it yourself or do you have any spots you like to get it at too?

uhmmmmm i used to get it when i went 2 aliotos in sf but it closed :(
or tbh wherever i see it on a menu i get it lol i rly like it... i dont rly rmmber specific places besides aliotos. like i used 2 go to an italian resto, immediately scope out the seafood/soup sections to see if the spot had it
in fact was saddened 2 learn that it was a sf only thing bc i was checking for cioppino at places outside the bay for a while before i one day googled it out of sheer curiosity as to why italian spots in sf always have cioppino but i cld never find it elsewhere 💀
it does seem like theres a couple places in ny that have it but havent tried it here

Thanks for this
If you do try any cioppino in NY I'm looking forward to hearing what you think
Do you guys think this thai canned coconut milk is still safe to eat? I accidentally left it out on the counter overnight and its been sitting in my fridge in the open can for the past 3 days. Its not like its dairy so I'm tempted to still give it a shot cos I'd hate to waste it.

the tasting is p reasonably priced, the counter is the move. this wasnt even all the dishes lol. we got the bev pairing and i rly liked it too
the tuna tonnato tartlet and oyster trout roe bisque thing were so good. rly liked everything and the vibes were rly fun not annoying
kawabun -- 400 yr old nagoya restaurant that just opened a branch in nyc in the old kokage/kajitsu space (rip)

a bit pricy but the food was really yummy. iid skip the wagyu sando, but the wagyu hobayaki on the leaf was fire
desserts r meh -- we got anmitsu and sake miso ice cream, drinks r great

mì Quảng

bánh da lợn
another popup : Bé Bếp x kreung cambodia collabo dinner at chino grande
baby shrimp cracker, spicy ass green mango salad underneath

crispy rice rolls with chinese brocco and beef tongue
this was nice but wish there were more crispy rice roll bits-- like only some of it was crispy
also sooo much cilantro lol it was a shock to me as a non cilantro girly
pig ear and pig intestine noodles. this was fire i cld eat thsi every day
got the kreung cambodia lobster rice to go to eat the next day
super yummy. normally not a huge lobster girly but this was super flavorful and yummy
contra just closed :(
reopening as a cocktail bar
ngl the les cocktail scene feels kinda overcrowded in that upscale drink vibe but idk ill still give it a go
cererliac crumpets-- these were amazing
fried scallop -- i enjoyed
breadcrumbed grilled?broiled??? heirloom tomatoes. super yum

rly sad theyre closing contra, but glad i got to go one more time
dale talde (top chef)'s goosefeather in tarrytown ny

we got crab rice (ass), mushroom rice noodles (fine), shrimp bao (not memorable but not bad), fish sauce caramel crispy potatoes (these are so f***ing good holy s***), half roast duck w sticky rice (worst sticky rice ive ever had utter mush, duck was mid and why lettuce wraps lol let me get the flatbread things w it), charsiu pork (the best entree option but that charsiu i had in shanghai like is so many levels above this one... tasted good still imo.)
grape themed shaved ice
overall as far as modern chinese goes it flopped
but the potatoes were 11/10 we got a second order it was so good
tosokchon opened an nyc location. their og location is in jersey

soondae guk (ordered for lunch)

went w a friend n got the gamja tang (spicy pig bones, potato, cabbage, perilla seed stew)
and myeongdong kalguksu (dumpling and knife cut noodle soup)
everything here is rly good. wish they gave more banchan but they give u plenty of kimchi at least
and lots of hot barley tea.
theyre going on my office delivery lunch rotation for sure--their lunch menu is pretty reasonable tbh. They have a rly lowkey vibe which i like, a lot of new korean openings are all rly sleek modern and elevated so it fls nice to just have another chill spot
also scoped out samwoojung (seoul style brothy bulgogi)'s nyc branch. og location in seoul

honestly rly enjoyed this spot too, it hit as a post drinks spot for sure
the spicy octo w fried sweet potato was good, red shrimp pancake rly rly hit tho.
bulgogi was fire, we split a medium w 3 ppl and 2 apps
also so many banchan?? and u get a whole half flounder
thought their desserts were rly nice and light, not that sweet
the frozen persimmon w ricotta might actually b a lil 2 unsweet if anything, but the popped rice shaved ice one was a great light dessert

katana kitten for drinks and their curry fries.
fries were hot and crispy, curry sauce was flavorful but lacked anything in it it was just sauce lol which was slightly sad. Fries were good for bar food but dont think id get any other food. drinks were nice but not memorable/wouldnt go back. the calpico one was my fave but not anything 2 crazy imo

hidetsugu ueno of tokyo's bar high five was in town making the rounds. drinks were soooo boozy but good. i normally dont get drinks that are like....super boozy so it wasnt my thing but i respect it
went 2 four horsemen for anniversary dinner
got a 10:45 res for 3 but theyre rly accomodating if u text them lol
they bumped our res up and changed us 2 a 2 top no issue

monkfish liver (sooo good)
oeuf mayonnaise -- i cld eat the mayo off the egg by the spoonful
sesame crusted tuna in brown butter. this is such a nostalgic dish and this rly slapped
maitake broth -- rly flavorful and nice
pork w charred scallion and fish sauce caramel
fish sauce caramel rly having a moment
super good
bfs trout was mid tho ngl
clafoutis-- so buttery good and crisp on the edges

pasta e ceci
seriouseats.com/pasta-e-ceci-pasta-with-chickpeas

not sure if i actually used this recipe lol but i think i did

golden diner katsu club sando for delivery--its rly good and better in person tbh

instagram.com/p/CwxtMXvKsUu
miso butter corn pasta-- idk why mine came out sooo green compared to hers LOL its the scallion, but i used the qty of scallion she called for??? anyway. this tasted rly good ans is rly easy as long as u have a blender

miso butter corn, grilled salmon, miso soup

instagram.com/p/CnhQjM9INlx
i added zi cai / nori to it too add some veg component and it worked out rly well
dailycookingquest.com/seaweed-and-egg-drop-soup.html
^explanation of what zi cai is/ how to buy it. its a good pantry item tbh. i just threw a layer of the try zi cai on top of the pork. i also added mirin i think and lots of mushroom powder bc i only had a single dry mushroom left lol
pusu -- new vegetarian chinese spot in williamsburg. kinda empty when we went, interested in the longevity of this spot
cumin 'lamb' skewers-- not bad but would be great if they were actually lamb LOL
fried mushrooms w the mayo dip were good
mapo tofu in pumpkin was yummy
the sweet sour 'pork' again wasnt bad but just wld be better if it wasnt again seitain
popcorn tofu was wack
ma la dry pot was rly good, but mala project can also do this well and u get the option fo meat or no meat
the peach tea was sooo good tho
the 'duck' and 'beef' bao unpictured were garbage
overall, id get the mapo tofu, the drypot and call it. those were the standouts and genuinely good. maybe add on the mushroom but its not essential tbh
sylvia's up in harlem. still family owned

their fried chicken is their most popular item and their ribs after that, but i heard good reveiws bout the chicken livers and he chitterlings so we got that plus bf got the bbq salmon
never had southern style chitterlings, i honestly rly liked it. i just wish some of it was crispy or something, it was slightly one textured
the collards and mac was rly great as well but defo salty as hell
bf is not a chitterlings person but did like the chicken livers a lot.
the lemonade is sooooo sweet which is how southern lemonade shld b but i gave mine 2 him bc its not for me
shashlik house for uzbeki food

got the grilled tomato kebab/shashlik, lamb lula kebab (their signature), tandoor bread (kinda stale ngl defs not as good as nargis cafe's but they ran outta the samsa which sells better here).
and mastava--beef and rice soup w tomato. n preserved lemon, rly yummy but had sooo much cilantro i was dying i didnt know cilantro featured in uzbeki food it caught me by surprise tbh

tosokchon opened an nyc location. their og location is in jersey
