Id give it a go 😭😭😭😭 i dont think id like it but id try it
Like not a huge lobster or crab person let alone an isopod
back in nyyyy
shanghai coffees:
cunkou dashu
sinking ristretto or something idk pretty good tho it hit
banana apple juice coffee thing -- just tasted like apple juice and coffee, no banana. was cool but not crazy i think the gute leute popup in nyc had something super similar already
theoranges
tangerine peel tonic water -- hated it, wayyy too sweet
excellent latte, good creme caramel
writer coffee - shanxi vinegar americano (shanxi style vinegar, tonic water, espresso), stall at this mini coffee festival thing i passed by. this was the second weirdest sounding coffee concoction there so i got it. the weirdest one was roasted seaweed themed lol
this was not for me--just sour fizzy coffee. talked to the owner he rly stood behind his s*** tho i asked if it was good he was like ofc its good im from shanxi i wldnt let my hometown down!!!!
into the force
pistachio coffee thing-- really weird tasting, like vaguely nutty very sweet strawb milk w bitter espresso mixed in.... not good. full review prev posted
shimmer
young d*** -- honduran coffee beans, mung bean soup, honeydew melon, sherry, pineapple, pandan, champagne vinegar
this rly hit i liked this a lot.... probably the best coffee concoction i had the trip
o.p.s.
this was good i liked it, supposed to resemble hong kong yuen yang or singaporean cham (milk tea mixed w coffee)... the rooibos tea gave it an interesting flavor i didnt expect. O.p.s. is i think considered the king of all the shanghai coffee spots
Overall v interesting—shanghai has like 3 of these types of coffee spots a block in certain areas theres so many. They almost all sprung up post pandemmy (though theoranges has been around for longer than that i know). My friend sent me a bunch more to go to but i kinda lost interest 😭 i feel like ive gotten the gist
shanghai bobas and other drinkies
chabaidao
black mulberry boba -- absolute ass, cough syrup core
not good
reg tie guan ying boba w cheese foam-- good
chicha sanqen
this was kinda not good-- was rly hypd bc they won some tea award and etc etc but didnt hit. full review prev posted
more yogurt
mango yogurt--p good just mango chunks in yogurt lol
the mango i think is nam doc mai mango varietal but grown in china.. cld b wrong but that feels right
i think teazzi and lazy sundaes in nyc i like a lot more than these spots tho teebeeaich
cocktail bars
paal
<- sweet and sour pork themed cocktail
<- salted egg yolk zongzi themed cocktail w ice cream and malted milk or something
the zongzi one was fire--just tasted like a yummy spiked milk shake w a hint of cardamom
the sweet and sour pork one rly resembles the sanbeiji one from 929 lol but still really weird and cool... convergent evolution i guess
speak low
multi floor speakeasy where each floor has a diff theme and cocktail list. this was the second floor
we got the sawadee-cup (thai tea boba one) and the fuxing cooler (salted cheese foam w i forget what exactly it is but it tastes like chinese sour plum juice)
the fuxing cooler was really really really good and interesting, the sawadee-cup was basically just a spiked boba lol. i will note they really were out here pulling the tea like a thai night market thai tea vendor tho it was v fun
enjoyed it, super busy tho, standing room only by 10:20 on a random weeknight
The guy who opened this used to be at angels share in ny and won the bacardi blah blah comp while there. Then opened this in shanghai. One of the people from double chicken please in ny worked at speak low for a bit. So all three of them share a couple of the same cocktails but done a little differently, which is rly interesting
Went to an Asian Street Food Fair in Wynwood on Sunday.

Only like four or five vendors were serving actual Asian food tho lol.
Everything else was the typical Miami fare.

Dang the turon looks good
Dang the turon looks good
It really was, I need to find a spot in my area that makes these.

@ghosting
pastries:
zhouxiu qiri
latte was good, these little cookies were hot ass like eating sawdust, carrot scone was like eating stale medieval peasant bread with a chock full of raw cinnamon, cld not recommend any less
butterful and creamorous
pistachio croissant, mystery meat croissant we thought was a pain au choc, and a really bad cinnamon roll thats unimaginably horrible. Was a bit of a frenzied battle to grab croissants inside, wish it wasnt self serve it was way more chaotic than id like at a bakery lol
pistachio cream is just plain whipped cream w flavoring, i liked the cream on the croissant tho no complaints flavorwise. the croissant itself was kinda wack though not a great pastry
^pork, curry, jalapeno, cheese. pork tastes how it looks, croissant texture similarly bad and is also soggy
overall bad execution, interesting concepts
pain chaud
latte from % arabica, was good
this pistachio puff pastry was really good tho, not like a normal cream puff at all its kinda its own thing--like its crunchy not soft like a reg cream puff. obviously more cream than puff as well but it was tasty... this item is what theyre known for according the random women that i came across that recognized the bag 😭💀😭💀
croissant was very mid, not a good rise and overall lacking in every way imaginable
spots name is written on the packaging

remarkably good dorayaki lol, fresh made u can watch them make it. apparently the best selling flavor is the oreo cream one
fascino bakery
shokupan--they have a bunch of diff ones, i got this one bc its apparently the ~premium ingredients one
v good, v buttery. i mean its just plain bread also so

chestnut cream cheese stuffed espresso bagel (espresso made it jst kinda bitter so on hindsight wrong flavor choice but overall better than i expected for sure. not a good bagel by ny standards it fails the knock test but as a baked good in its own category its good -- good rise and chew)
anpan was cool but not crazy, just got it bc i thought the shape was fun. the way the paste is distributed makes it hard to eat tho like u hav 2 think about how ur gonna eat it such that u get a bean paste in the bite
this bread hit hit though its just sugar and butter lol. this choco milk is really good too
didnt get the croissant here bc it looked bad and i didnt want to pay for any more croissant disappointments
all these spots were in or very close to xintiandi though like u can hit all of them within 30 min if u wanted 2 (ignoring any lines)
ice cream:
四叶和菓子本舖 u gotta paste that in dianping its not on apple maps
this was rly disappointint to me tbh the mochi was bad, the jelly was fine, the ice cream was a little hard, and the cookie was a cracker not a dorayaki pancake like i thought. Their wagashi was good tho i got this peach one that i didnt get a pic of it was solid. coffee shop across has solid coffee tho and a cool attached eclectic store (vinyls, books, purses, jewelry, home decor, other chachkis)
azabuya
they have diff matcha strength gelatos
they were out of the super rich one at like 3pm so i just got the medium and light one. tbh i didnt rly care for this lol id rather have matcha ice cream than gelato maybe. the medium one was already bitter enough, i think the super od one wld b actively difficult to eat, while the light one was kinda too wishy washy for me. this is deff inspired by suzukien in tokyo that sells 7 levels of matcha gelato and is v viral.
assorted sweets:
afternoon tea at the peninsula hotel
was country of turkey themed -- scones were good and savories, sweets were 2 sweet for me
date mochi thing from fei spa--they have random free food if u go to the spa... like a literal sitdown shanghainese restaurant in the spa where 99% of the menu is free and u can order whatever/however much u want and nobody cares u just cant take it home
fruits:
some funky mango varietals.... i forget the exact names but one on the right is like "hot pepper mango" or something bc of the way it looks (wasnt spicy or anything like that)
waxberry/yang mei--these are super seasonal early to mid summer fruits. theres at least 2 diff varietals, these are the smaller kind. really sweet and juicy and soft like a ripe strawberry, but also fairly tart. these dye the s*** out of clothes tho
orange flesh loquat/pipa
white flesh loquat/pipa.... i think this one tasted more mild compared to the orange flesh one but idk clda just been the batch no idea lol
these r 40usd cherries. i will say these are very good cherries like u know how if u get a box of cherries at the supermarket like 20% will b really good and some 2 tart or 2 soggy or something... these are like 100% really good ones. like super uniform in color, taste, shape, look, but also nobody is that deep into cherries to pay that much for good cherries lol.
@boruto_dad what the fucc
would y’all eat this?
https://www.instagram.com/p/Cs5P4eqBdWc/?igshid=NTc4MTIwNjQ2YQ==
i understand its like lobster and crab and s*** but ever since learning about these b******s in undergrad bio they freak me the f*** out. even just knowing its isopod i dont know if i would eat the meat or whatever.

naw this looks too fire
