lysee queen ahman >> dka
ordered lunch from pavé today
bakery cafe in midtown, owned by an ex jungsik executive patissier (aka a predecessor of the lysee lady)

baked goods went crazy, top tier baguette + croissant, sandwich overall was great
super crispy baguette w beautiful blistering on the crust, crazy rise, great chew inside, great flavor
croissant was super crispy, airy, nicely chewy and buttery. overall shapewise its more idk rustic than the super high gloss diamond shape that la cabra or high end patisseries tend 2 have which is kinda???? interesting
just pho you up in uws is doing a monthly tasting menu series,
last one was bo 7 mon (viet 7 courses of beef)
this one was 7 courses of fish
collabo w beaucoup_nyc on ig
negitoro tartare w tobiko (this as incredibly whtever)
ca tai chunh (tasted like viet beef carpaccio but w fish, super yum)
fried fish w green mango, ginger lime fish sauce (mango went crazy w the fish)
ca kho to (Carmelized salmon in fish sauce/coconut water), yummy. tasted like shanghainese red braised fish to me which i like
canh chua ca (tamarind fish soup w salmon collar, tomato, pinepaple, okra, elephant ear stalks). this might b my fave dish, it was so flavorful and hit super crazy
salmon rice porridge w aromatics, super flavorful
diy summer rolls w pompano, i liked the pineapple w it
jackfruit cream cake (aight)
they were very accommodating for gluten free ppl. their regular menu (which is mainly pho) also is very good for GF eaters
next tasting dinner will b clam themed

That tasting menu looks insane
rick martinez mole tasting dinner @ the new platform by jbf space (bon appetit world tour continues)

dip was fire
his take on esquites w mole verde, super buttery the mole was fire. didnt taste at all how i expected, it was super rich and yum, very cilantro heavy
this was super super good, the tamale was super nutty, buttery, and had such a rich flavor from the shiitake. didnt taste super mushroomy, just tasted good. super interesting. the mole amarillo was fire 2 tho i think i liked the mole verde more
super yummy, slightly sweet. definitely cld taste the raisins in the mole. beef was falling apart tender

yes
also not rly a wine girly but these wines were super fire 2 me...
shinka ramen - beef bone marrow ramen
ft garlic chive, daikon, and garlic chips
tbh i get where the daikon was coming from but the daikon needed like 30 min more lol
broth was super rich and nice (tho very salty)
didnt need the bean sprouts and cld use more marrow
and here was something that like i kept tasting that rly bothered me tho cldnt figure out what it was LOL so
kinda mixed feelings teebeeqh
i think this wld hit crazy with some of the details ironed out

thank you come again spicy pad thai... p mid but fine

Lysee ✨✨✨
Honestly havent tried lady wong yet
Nor gong gan…. Gong gan looks interesting but unappetizing

pork binagoongan from grill 21
really really tasty, wish it was like 15% less salty but good nonetheless. had a nice shrimp paste funk but not overwelming, pork was super tender and overall wld eat again. very comforting
silver apricot
left: scallion puffs
they were nice but not very scalliony..... not particularly noteworthy
right: deviled tea eggs w pickled mustard seeds and chili garlic aioli
i guess its a deconstructed deviled egg. was sour and mayo but u dont rly get the tea egg unless u take a bite plain
it was fine, i prefer a reg deviled egg or a plain tea egg

duck confit grilled cheese w duck sauce on flaky pancake
this was super super greasy lol but otherwise unremarkable
left: sausage garlic crispy bit fried rice -- salty as f*** !!!!!! like crazy salty for no reason it was absurd. inedible… i can count on one hand the number of times ive sent a dish back and im so sorry i had to 😭😭😭😭😭
right: lazi spring rice cake -- also salty as s***, rice cakes were fried but had a weird hard texture on the outside rather than a crispy texture
not a huge fan
pineapples and cream-- calpico cream, date caramel, brown butter quinoa crisp
the cream wasnt giving calpico, date caramel slightly gave dates for me but the other ppl i was with didnt taste it, the quinoa was nice
basically take some whipped cream, some pineapple, and some quinoa crisp and u basically have the dessert lol it was fine
the shortbread was a huge flop but cute conceptually-- not buttery at all and fairly bleh
overall i would strongly not recommend silver apricot i do not think a single dish is worth going to it for. the worst dishes were inedible and the best dishes were unremarkable

chikara udon at raku -- my forever fave udon

librae za'atar morning bun and espresso pain au choc
the cheese in the za'atar made it slightly gummy inside which is sad but tastewise super strong
and the pain au choc had a good espresso-y choc flavor, nice flaky crisp outside, buttery for sure
