lol i wrote a huge list and lost it bc i hit refresh on accident

baked goods/sweets in the williamsburg/bushwick/mid to lower manhattan areas:

• mei lai wah (fatty charsiu buns)
• michaeli (havent been, rugelach looks good)
• caffe panna (rly nutty ice cream, a bit too much for me personally)
• morgenstern debuted a bunch of new flavors since u went, havent tried the new ones
• caleta is a new ice cream bar, their ice cream (bad habits ice cream) is stocked by me so i buy it sometimes
• alfs bakery (new laminated brioche/laminated baguette spot i havent been to but looks fire)
• lodi (havent been but their choco croissant looks so interesting, owned by the guy from estela)
• honestly balthazar has really legendary baked goods, their almond croissant is super iconic
• kopitiam for malaysian coffee/baked goods
• levain is in williamsburg now... personally not a fan of their cookie style as its sorta cakey but they r iconic

my b but u got any more cool bakery/cookie spots i should check out? might have time for like 3 more. still need to go lysee, dab, and winson and maybe nick son one more time

balthazar bakery is definitely close, onl a few blocks

but balthazar/morgensterns are like 1 to 2 subway stops from michaeli, mei lai wah, and kopitiam (and also scarrs)

ny cheap bites... keeping it mostly to bk manhattan

i fl like its kinda hard to like... pick out ny only cheap eats bc a lot of cool ny cheap eats are just like.... ethnic food that u cld find elsewhere??? idk but i guess these feel very ny to me
grab and go takeout

• aa doubles bakes and roti, tho might be far for u. alis roti shop i hear is also rly good, also far for u probably. trini
• ✨ punjabi deli's samosa chaat (everything else is p bland tbh). on e village/LES border
• ✨ scarrs pizza for ny style (cant rmember if u been yet)
• ✨ streecha in ukrainian village (have not been personally but been meaning to)
• ✨ halal guys
• BEC at mama jo's breakfast cart (cash only, mornings only. have yet to make it there. its on the M line but midtown)
• ✨ russ and daughters pastrami lox (i dont think u hit this one yet?)
• ✨ alex's luncheonette for great dominican in bushwick
• hajjis for the og chopped cheese (in spanish harlem)
• harlem seafood soul (in harlem, have not personally been but heard great things)
• red hook food corp ft the ocky way guy on tik tok LOL its kinda deep in bk (red hook) and i have not been but idk its definitely ny only LOL

not super super cheap, but defs not pricy:

• ✨ ivan ramen is ramen thru a jewish american lens, brody was on chefs table. les. doubt u can find outside ny
• bark bbq for texan dominican style bbq (timeout market in dumbo bk so may be kinda far for u). doubt u can find outside ny
• la dinastia. the last cuban chinese joint in upper west side, rly a cultural relic. doubt u can find outside ny
• izzys brooklyn smokehouse. this is a kosher bbq spot in a very hasidic area, pretty cool. in bk but might b far for u. dont think u can find this outside ny lol
• lechonera la piraña: havent been as its in the bronx but it has been heavily on my mind. guy chops his lechon w a machete LOL. u gotta go right at open tho if u wanna avoid long lines
• ✨ newyorktitlan, ny mexican brunch. rly good. in bushwick so i dont think its that far
• ✨ una pizza napoletana https://ny.eater.com/2023/4/12/23678622/una-pizza-napoletana-lantica-pizzeria-da-michele-manhattan-ranked not a traditional neapolitan pie, so it makes it p unique
• jg melon burger: i havent been in years and years but its a classic. Ny pub style burger
• ✨ ill also put cuts and slices on this list- their sweet chili oxtail slice is rly good. In terms of straight pizza technique scarrs is better but the topping selection is unmatched. I will say their slices are like the absolute most expensive in the city… like 11$ a slice but its still under 25 for 2 slices of za so still qualifies in this cost category. In bed stuy. There may be a fat line depending when u go
• ✨ casa adela: puerto rican in east village, super good, definitely a community spot. Their mofongo is crazy

No they have a constant stream of buns going into the oven

Never had them run out on me

They may have a line tho—they blew up on white tik tok lol but its a real chinatown staple

I dont think ive ever tried to go past 6 tho also

And its right across from a rly good hong kong milk tea spot— kong sihk tong
U can order tea to go and venmo or cash but the service can b v gruff and its kinda a fight to talk to the person 💀💀 but worth imo bc i love their tea

went to some place called vesuvios. wasn’t on my list but it was otw to somewhere else and it was hella ppl in front of it so i decided to check it out but s*** didn’t really look that good so i just got some cookies then dipped

then went to joes rice roll

then got pineapple custard and pork and sesame balls from mei lai wah

then got salted choco, banana s’mores, and malted dulce de leche from morgensterns
