Fair point.
I’m not really upset at him for it or anything, tbh, I like that song, I just think it still hits a weird note.
It’s hard for me to understand why, but it just feels like a strange choice for Drake to rap about that on a record.
Maybe I’m still just caught up in his old school image or something, idk. But I think he just has a hard time conveying the energy I associate with street s***.
I also don’t have a problem with people rapping about fictional things; so long as they aren’t claiming real world gangs or something stupid like that; if you wanna rap about killing people, then I won’t try to stop you. The thing for me though, is that I feel like you have to sound like you believe it yourself for the song to work as well as possible. And idk, when Drake raps about guns or having people knocked off or something, I feel like he knows he’s just talking.
But yeah, I know I’ve been clowning Drake these past few weeks for the beef stuff, but I do genuinely enjoy and respect his music, so it’s not me trying to get at him or anything.

Yea it’s crazy but I’ll say this again, the multi million dollar machine behind Drake shouldn’t be underestimated. Word going to take some clever PR and creative marketing but I can see Drake coming back perhaps even stronger than before give it some time

I think the clean cut image was way more of a facade than what he’s doing now. A lot of the street s*** been around him for over a decade. It’s just that once he got comfortable enough with his standing he kind of let the real drake come through

And I don’t think he’s for a second gangster, but I do think he’s affiliated and that has always been the case.

See and this is what separates good rappers from good writers.

Drake rapping about his inner conflicts coming from a mixed background in a non-Logic way would make for way more compelling content than these last few years of “these 21 y/o girls with bbl dont wuv me” and “SHOT HIM IN DAYLIGHT”

But that would have to involve masterful writing. And I think Drake is a GREAT rapper, will prolly go down as one of our best.
