Nothing you said pertains to culture. Drake had big buzz but he wasn't a culture shifter or a "cool" rapper until the second half of the 10s. He was the hook guy in the early 10s that had credibility due to hanging around and being cosigned by prime Wayne.

But you didn't see people dressing like Drake, wanting to be Drake, media praising Drakes albums etc... the influence wasn't there. People felt very comfortable disrespecting Drake. "Drake doesn't have a classic" was a very common thought on the internet, especially on KTT1. It isn't until the last 5-7 years that people have gone back and declared some of his earlier albums classics.

Hell I still have this gif from back in the day--and this was 2017ish so even by that time KTT1 was debating whether he had a classic album

When did Drake ever wanna do that

And those posts from KTT1 were from delusional lame ass niggas that couldn’t fathom the fact drake was the best rapper alive

While some of these ppl have openly talked about Yeezus influencing them, some of these are a bit reaching.

Like Denzel Curry straight up called Kanye out for allegedly stealing Yeezus. If any of his music sounds like Yeezus, he would likely say that what influenced him are the sounds that influenced Kanye. Not Yeezus itself.

Tyler has cited Kanye as a general inspiration, but not Yeezus specifically. Infact, the album that ppl mainly say is Yeezus inspired is Igor. And songs like New Magic Wand, Tyler has spoken on his inspo of that song on stage. And it was some European band. Tyler seems to pull his direct inspo from weird, obscure music as a whole. Also, Kanye is on record saying that Odd Future was some of his inspo for Yeezus.

FKA Twigs was making weird and experimental music since before Yeezus released. And she comes from the area whose music scene inspired Yeezus. I feel this would be like if a new artist from Atlanta came out, and ppl were saying “you can hear Drake influence”, when the more likely scenario is they’re influenced by the area they grew up in, where Drake got his sound.

Yeezus definitely influenced some ppl. I just don’t think it’s as “changed the music industry” influential as The College Trilogy and 808s.

Don't do that people are still ripping off Black Skinhead & On Sight. There would be no Motomami without Yeezus either, fact

Yeahhhh man ppl don’t remember. He had both the mainstream normal casuals and the core fans tapped in to the max 2016. I mean that year drake was obv neck and neck and in terms of charts more successful, but if the argument is who is more culturally relevant at 38 Kanye wins. It was also the year he realized how much fame and attention he gains from fully vulnerably crashing out. 2016 was peak but also the beginning of the end

„It was also the year he realized how much fame and attention he gains from fully vulnerably crashing out.“

Thats not really true. In 2016 he was d***ged out, paranoid and his mental illness got way worse. He realized it in 2018 and thats one of the reason why he stopped taking his meds.

    All facts

Him being associated with Wayne helped him out a lot more than these stans would ever admit

Most of his influence doesn’t even show up in rap either, it’s largely scattered in R&B

I disagree. we talking about MBDTF era, rolling into the pop s*** (Katy, Bey), rolling into Kanye headlining every festival that year plus Coachella, rolling into WTT which ended with the pivot rolling into GOOD music summer 2012

like are we forgetting all the HITS Ye was making/featuring post MBDTF 2010-2012? nigga was with Khaled, Ross, Jay, 2Chainz, Big Sean, whatever artist you can name that was big in that era and just handing out hit songs even Drake couldn’t match yet

i think that era is what made everyone run back come 2016 cause he was so against everyone Yeezus era

Drake is fundamentally not an artist, He does not express himself, he expresses what he views as popular or what is current in his lyrics, song structure and vibe. Take care was his best album and it's The Weeknd's illegimate child. even So far gone and before is a copy of 808s and heartbreak
Drake's talent for music is in his business, showmanship and performative arts, He knows how to work in the system because he was a child actor, groomed into an industry. That is fine, curation is a field of work and specialized interest.
It is just laughable to compare him to the Kendricks,Kanye's,Basquiat's s*** even Jay Z.
He is more akin to a very intelligent sociopathic DJ Khaled. Just instead of yelling DJ Khalleeeed. He raps one of his verses of the backs of whatever sound he thinks will be popular

    Ding ding ding
